What am I going to do re:car seat

So the baby should be here any day now. I'm having some car seat issues. I drive a Yukon Denali. The second row has captains chairs and a third row 50/50 bench. Right now each girl is in the captains chairs. I have to install the infant seat behind me, move DD2 to passenger and DD1 to the third row. Here's my issue. DD1 can't unfasten the belt on the booster. She just can't get the pressure on the center clip. I thought this was going to be so easy of a transition. Now I'm going to have a 5yo in the 3rd row who is frigging stuck there! Now I can't do the drive and drop in the morning for school either! I'm going to have to climb to the 3rd row to unsnap her every car ride. Anyone go through something similar? I don't want to get her a different booster bc of my own safety preferences,I just prefer a 5pt harness. I have her practicing getting herself out and she just can't do it! I'm screwed aren't I? Looks like I'll be getting in a work out! I think I may be able to reach the clasp from behind the seat, but I guess drive and drop is out until she figures it out huh? Damn!

  • I would just have her keep practicing. My oldest was only 3 when I had my third so it wouldn't have been an option. Does she use both hands? GL! hope it clicks soon for her!

  • Just give her a little more time.  My son is exactly her age and is just starting to be able to get the crotch part buckled himself.  Good luck!!

  • Could you put DD2 in the third row and keep DD1 in her current seat so DD1 can still use the drop off line at school?

  • she'll get it-- just have her keep practicing.... Lia was almost 4 when Logan was born and she got moved to our third row in our Odyssey... until she got the hang of it, I had to buckle/unbuckle her-- I went in through the trunk... pain in the butt, but it didn't take her too long to figure out the button

Could you maybe do this and put part of the 3rd row down to make navigating a little easier?

  • Which careseat do you have?  My 5 year old has no problems opening the Britax Frontier but we just got a Graco Argos and I care barely open that one. They are so stiff.  She'll get it but maybe get a new seat if worse comes to worse.
  • In the meantime, can you flip the other side of the bench down, and get her through the trunk?  I know, still a pain, but easier than climbing through the captains chairs!  I just got a new Tahoe, so i know exactly what you're talking about...

Yeah and then she starts to get upset because she thinks she'll have to live in the car, so she stops trying lol. Oh well! Practice makes perfect!

That was actually my first thought, but since she (DD2) is home with me all day I figured I would spend way more time getting her in and out. I guess I have to weigh my nuisances! Just how important is drive and drop lol?!?!?

See I was thinking about this! I have to keep half the third row down in general because I can't fit more than a can of soda in the back of this godforsaken car with the whole bench up. I may switch this around later on today, just to play around! Musical car seats! Fun for all!!!!

The car seat is still new, so I think it's going to need some time to loosen up a touch!

I have the Frontier. That silly red button is so damn tight!!! I have to say, I've cracked my nails on it several times! E is a touch on the lazy side, so I don't think she's really making an effort at this point, that may change when she hits the back of the bus!

  • i have Eliana in the baby car seat directly behind me in a captain's chair, Owen in the back row right behind her (so it's easy for me to get him in and out of the van) and Landon is in the other captain's chair. he can get the seatbelt off himself, but i have him in that spot because it's easiest for drop off at school.

I'm going to give it a whirl! Do you like the Tahoe? I HATE this Denali with a passion. It sucks. But then again I've been driving the same brand car since I was 19, this is my first off brand, besides that it's an American car, I'm still irritated with it a year later. I've tried to give it back to the GMC dealer twice already lol! It was an impulse decision and an overrule on my car choice by DH and I swear to God, I will be holding this stupid car over his head till we are 90. I'm not bitter though!! ;)

Well, I have only had it for about 3 days now! haha so I don't have a good feel for it.  so far, i do like it.  I just came out of an escalade extended cab, so it is a big change for me not to have all that trunk room!!!  We'll make it work someohow, but the double stroller in the trunk will pose to be a problem, i'm sure!
