My Morning Heart Attack :)
This will be long, so I will try to make it as short as possible.
I had to appeal for my financial aid this semester, because I was over the attempted vs completed ratio for my schooling thus far. (even though I did fine last semester and it was my first time on F.A., they didn't care and the past mattered). Fine. I do my appeal send it in, it's accepted.
In the meantime I had to come up with the money for the minimum # of hours required so I didn't have to start paying back the loan. (two classes or 6 hours). No biggie. I do it.
Today is the first day of classes. I made it super easy on myself and picked two classes that were back to back and in the same room. I go to my first class and there is a cancellation notice on the door for my SECOND class..... It's for the whole semester. The school dropped the class with no notification.
I start freaking out because I didn't know what that means for my FA. Long story short is, I was able to get into another late start class for public speaking ( a class I actually need for my degree! YAY) and am fine.
WORST case scanario(sp?) is that the speech class (that starts in march) gets cancelled again. if this happens they will not touch my FA, but I will eat into the 6 mo. grace period I have to start paying them all back. That will end when I register for fall classes.
So. All's well that ends well, yes?

I don't get it. Does this mean you're only taking two classes for the whole semester?
Or did you add classes after your FA appeal was approved?
Nope I have to take only 2 this semester. I got so screwed over with the FA appeal.
If I signed up for a full course load, I would have had to pay for it out of pocket. I don't have that kind of money with my pt job.
I thought about signing up for more after I got it, but the $$ didn't hit my account until yesterday. It's very hard to find a late start class that isn't full now. I was lucky to get the speech one.
Does the school make you pay when you register or something?
I just think that you should've been able to register and wait for the FA to come through. If they denied your appeal, you could've dropped the classes.
I would be really pissed about this. How much longer is it going to take you to finish now?
Registration beggins on x date, and they hold your classes until payment date. If I didn't have to appeal, it would have been fine. The appeal froze my FA until it was approved. They didn't even start reviewing appeals until the payment deadline had passed. Believe me I tried to get some help and answers. They really eff ya.
Still the same time frame for garduation. Instead of having one class my last semester, I will have to take a full load. Which... I mean whatever, but I was pissed off at first.
Why wouldn't they tell me going in an applying for FA, that no matter what, I was going to have to appeal this semester. I could have saved enough to pay for 12 hrs. KWIM.
Then the school bags the class with ZERO notice, and I am left up sh*t creek. For real, if I had not found a later class I would have had to start paying on my loans.
More than pissed off, I was just trying hard not to cry today when everyone I talked to up at the school acted sorry for me. Everyone knew my odds of getting another class were not good. I feel like both the school and the Govt ought to have a better backup plan for situations like this.
note to self* try to save as much $$ as possible.
Yeah, that's pretty much the only back up plan you can count on.
