Booking plane tickets to Europe

My husband and I are planning a trip to Ireland in September. First, I wanted to know how close to our travel date should we book tickets? Prices don't seem bad now, but I don't want to book to soon if it's better to wait. Secondly, do you have recommendations for business class? British Airways seemed decently priced, but it would be great to hear some additional options. Thanks!

We've only bought flights to Europe twice and both times we booked them pretty far in advance. It's a pretty big trip and we wanted to make sure we were able to get there and didn't feel it was worth risking not getting a flight on the dates/times we needed to see if the price would go down.

The first time we went we booked our flights through a travel agent. This last time (December) we booked online. I just looked at a few different discount airline sites and got an idea of what prices were like - we found the best price on cheapoair.ca.

We flew with BA, but not first class. I've never flown first class on an overseas flight, so I can't really help you with that.

I recently flew business class on BA from PHX-JNB. I paid upwards of $2000 in fuel surcharges and taxes. It's SO not worth it to fly them- they have the most outrageous taxes and fees! I will say, though, that I was very comfortable flying all of that distance in business. The tickets were expensive (even when using miles and just paying taxes), but worth it. I would imagine you'll start to see good rates in the springtime/summertime for last minute fall travel.

BA is nice because they have the lay-flat seats in Buisness. Some other carriers either don't have lay-flats or dot have them on all of their planes (ie Continental). IMO, that is the only major difference worth booking one airline in Buisness over another. I haven't done this before because I've never had an option as to airline when flying business, but check seat guru. Maybe they will tell you if the seats are lay-flat or an awkward for sleeping Lazy Boy type recline.
