Strep

Around 8:00 on Sunday I went to take a drink and felt like I swallowed knives. I sort of dismissed it but on Monday morning I woke up and felt even worse. I tried to get into the doctor and had an appointment for Monday afternoon, but my doctor got called away for an emergency delivery so I got rescheduled for this morning at 9.

My doctor took one look at my throat and did the swab test (How effing horrible is that? Honestly?!) He came in not even ten minutes later and said I had strep. I said a few four letter words seeing as how there's already one person on vacation this week at work and one person quit. Which means right now there's me and one other person. Crap on a crutch.

He gave me some kick asss medicine and said I should be fine to go back to work tomorrow as long as I'm feeling up to it. Last time I had strep my old doctor prescribed me this horse pills. Really? I HAVE STREP, I can barely take a drink let alone a horse pill. And then I'd crush them up and put them in apple sauce and they tasted as good as I felt. So my doctor was nice enough to give me a liquid medicine that actually tastes like bubble gum.

Yes, I'm a 12 year old. But you know what, I took it with no issues and I wasn't gagging like I would have done with the pills.

Now...if only I could eat that would be AWESOME.

I know how you feel. It never fails...I get strep 2-3 times per year. Strep is the worst!

Ugh...this is only the second time in my life that I've had it. The first time was paired with a sinus infection and a double ear infection. It was heaven.

How long does it take for the medicine to kick in? I need to be at least up to 50% back up to normal for J's birthday on Thursday.

  • Sounds like you and Ella are on the same med! LOL Feel better soon.

I used to get strep all the time. I actually have a heart murmur from it. I had my tonsils out when I was 25 when my tonsils herniated and they were harboring strep. I went 5 years with no more strep until I randomly got it -- and turns out I was knocked up. Awesome.

  • A couple weeks before my prom I got strep throat so bad I could hardly swallow so I went to the ER with my dad. They did a swab test, but they tested for Mono too, so it took a long time for the results to come back. The whole time I was pacing and crying because of the pain and because I was scared I would miss my prom. And because I could hardly swallow, they game me banana flavoured liquid antibiotics

  • Feel better... have some soup or pudding. :)
  • I get it at least once a year and it sucks. The good bee is it usually only takes 24 hours after starting antibiotics to start feeling fairly decent.

  • I woke up today feeling...maybe 10% better. That's something right? I'm going to try to go to work today but I'm not sure how long I'll be there.

I was up half the night sick...which J seems to think it's because I only ate a thing of apple sauce and a tiny bit of soup yesterday and you're not supposed to take those meds on an empty stomach.

So yeah..not fun. Dry heaving + strep throat=torture. I learned my lesson.
