Gas stove

Has anyone had problems with their gas stoves?  Our started having a lighting problem (you can hear the pop of the stove when the gas catches) intermittently now for about a week.  I am wondering if we need to replace it or repair it (replacing seems much cheaper).

Also, we are looking at new houses, and we aren't finding many with gas stoves.  Is this a thing of the past, or do you have to custom your house to get them?  I love my gas stove, so I would really miss it if we went back to electric.

Re: Gas stove

  • I think it depends on the area you live in. We have gas too, I LOVE my gas stove and that's all I've ever had.

I think you're OK, it sounds like your burner may be going bad. Could be something minor or major. when you turn it on have a lighter to help light it. I know my mom's stove is like that, 2of her burners don't light on their own.

  • I actually think gas stoves are more standard in high end kitchens bc they cook better (actually gas for range, electric for oven if you want to be specific). We have a gas stove, no problems so far other than an occasional delay in lighting, but it's only 2 yrs old. I too highly prefer gas. If you're looking at new homes, can you select your appliances? You could def have your realtor write something in the contract.

  • There is a black cast iron circle (for lack of a better explanation) on top of the burner. Make sure that it's centered in the middle. If I knock mine to the side I have trouble lighting occasionally.

Good idea- both DH and I stated that we would really miss the gas.

Thanks ladies for all the suggestions!  It helps!
