Don't you have a cat that gets completely wigged out by the vet and they put him under for all vet stuff? How does that work? Do you drug him at home first?

If I were a man (or fitty) I'd totally call my penis THE WIZARD - HappyTummy

Re: essbee

  • I don't have cats, but my sister's clinic does this and she has explained it to me before. You take the cat in inside a carrier. They put the entire carrier into a chamber and turn on the sleepy gas. Kitty is asleep before they remove them and wakes up in his/her own carrier later.
  • Thanks. If only I could get Bhaji in a carrier. I am hoping my vet will give me something to put in his food to sedate him first.

Benadryl is pet safe, but I assume you'll need something more potent?

ETA: they'll probably tell you over the phone what their SOP is for sedation of pets with anxiety issues. I would just call.

  • Yes, we lost him last year.  But he was a feisty dude.  Scratched the vet tech's EYELID!

It worked just like Wendy said.  They give them gas while in the carrier, so they're completely relaxed.  I know they do xanax and the like for animals now, so I would talk to your vet about doing that in advance.

We also have vets that do house calls, and it's not too expensive.  If we didn't love our vet to pieces, we would have done that for him.  I'm sure you can find a similar service in SF.

  • Oh I am sorry essbee. yeah he is a psycho. I can't even pick him up. Or touch him with anything but my hand (like the advantage tube, can't touch him with it). And if I try to restrain him at all, even just putting my arm around him he freaks. I think only two of my friends have ever even seen him.

Called my vet and the receptionist had never heard of the gas. So I will email and see what our options are.
