We're going shopping for a vacuum this weekend and we know we definitely want a Dyson. My Mom has an older version they don't make anymore and I love using her vacuum whenever I housesit for her. Does anyone have a model they recommend? We were thinking of one of the Animal models. If it helps, we have one dog who sheds a lot (and will likely have another dog soon) and we have a mixture of hardwoods, tile, laminate, carpet and throw rugs. TIA!
Re: Favorite Dyson?
We don't have any pets, but have the regular Dyson ball and I love it. It sucks up so much crap. I was amazed when we used it back at our condo, all the crap that came out of our carpets.
Our cleaning lady has a Dyson that doesn't seem to work as well. I think its this one. I had a pair of fuzzy socks that left fuzzy's on the carpet and after two cleanings her vacuum didn't seem to pick them up. Not sure if she's just doing a quick job and missing them or if its her vacuum.
We have the Animal Ball (DC25 - the purple one) and I swear by that thing. Moosh and Lulu shed a ton and I could make another cat with the fuzz that it picks up every week.
My only gripe is wishing the cord were longer - but for all its positives I can live with that.

We have one of the basic/classic Dysons (I think the DC14) and I like it- but, I find that the suction is best when the vacuum is almost in a completely upright position (so therefore it doesn't get underneath our dining room table that well and we have to move the table to really get that portion of the rug.)
I would hope that the ball models do not have this problem.
I love the handle being right there and use 2 of the on board attachments a lot- I don't use the upholstery one that much. The animal model comes w/ an attachment that has a turbine/brush thingy in the upholstery attachment.
I bought the Dyson home cleaning attachment kit, which has 3 more attachments- one for cleaning blinds, one for tops of cabinets, etc. and one stiffer bristled brush and I honestly hardly ever use it, because they are all in a box and not "on-board" like the original attachments.
I have a regular Dyson Animal and love it. When I vacuum the carpet in the bunny's cage (dark blue carpet and he has red fur) you can see the clean line right where I vacuumed.. with just one "swoop".
I only wish it would have a retractable cord
