taking a travel steamer on a cruise?

I have heard the cruise line will take them from you? Is this true? I can break my apart so it looks less like a steamer- or would it be better to put it in my purse and not in my luggage. I'm not going to be happy if they take my steamer. Thanks!

Re: taking a travel steamer on a cruise?

  • Regardless of where you put it, the cruise security people will likely take it from you.  As far as I know there isn't any line that allows you to bring a steamer on board.

You can have anything you need pressed or steamed sent out to be done for you.

  • Ditto pp.  They most likely have laundry rooms with irons on every deck of the ship as well.
  • There's a reason why steamers are banned, please don't circumvent it. Using one that has been taken apart and reassembled is even more of a fire risk!

There are many ways you can avoid/fix wrinkles. You can pack your clothes to avoid wrinkles, like rolling and using dry cleaner bags. Pack Downy wrinkle release spray, which can be found in the travel/trial size section of most stores (I know Wal-Mart has it). It's a life-saver! You just spray & smooth and let dry. Another tip is to hang garments on the back of the door while you shower. And, of course, if all else fails, there's always laundry services on board. On most ships, a simple steaming/pressing is inexpensive.

It's a travel steamer it's meant to come apart- I'm not taking it apart myself. I get where they are coming from not allowing them, but isn't my flat iron or curling iron more of a fire risk than a steamer?

  • I'm just curious about what you plan on steaming.  I wouldn't really plan on steaming or ironing on my vacation..lol.  Some other options are to use the steam setting on the iron (can't remember if they have it in the cabin) or to just hang your garments in the rr while you are taking a nice hot shower.

This is untrue a lot of the  mainstream lines, you need to check with the cruiseline.

Careful packing, wrinkle release, steaming up the bathroom, and waiting to send dry cleaning out until you are on board.

I had heard there were no irons in the cabins- which is why I thought bringing my little travel steamer would be great. I pretty much iron or steam everything before I put it on. Dresses for dinner, mainly for the formal nights. I pack everything right from the dry cleaner so it's already pressed, but things get wrinkled from being in a suitcase. I can't help it I'm that crazy OCD person who can't stand one wrinkle.

I guess I will roll my clothes, bring the wrinkle releaser stuff that one of the other poster talked about, and hang them in the bathroom during showers and hope for the best. I guess worst case I can send things out to be pressed.

I consider Princess mainstream, and there was a laundry room with irons on every level of both of the past 2 cruises I've been on.  The irons are such that you cannot remove them from said laundry room but they are there for general use.

I didn't say all and I said to check with the cruiseline if that was available.  Op didn't say which line she was on.
