Anyone ever stayed at an AI on Aruba?

Very broad question, I know. Friends just got back from a 5 star resort in Mexico, and I was raving to DH. He said he'd rather go to Aruba, and I was like, "Okay...."

Any recommendations?

Re: Anyone ever stayed at an AI on Aruba?

  • I have stayed both AI and non AI in Aruba.  I greatly preferred non-AI.  The restaurants in Aruba are great, the water is very safe/clean to drink and it is safe to leave your resort and explore.  I would never stay AI there again.

  • We stayed at the Occidental Grand in Aruba (AI) and had a great experience.   I know most people will say not to do AI, but it worked for us.   We aren't huge "foodies" though (I don't even eat meat).   In terms of the hotel itself (i.e. service, rooms, amenities, etc.), we had a great experience!

  • I've been to Aruba twice and going back in March and I've never stayed at an AI. I prefer to try different restaurants everytime I go.

  • We've stayed at the Divi everytime we have been there.  And usually end up off-resort to eat dinner.  Probably a huge waste of money but we love having the breakfast and lunch easily available to us. And the booze.
  • I've done both, and honestly don't do an AI in Aruba. The food there is SOOOO good! There are tons of fantastic restaurants on the island that are very reasonably priced.
  • We loved the Divi AI in Aruba.
