Re: Tues.Quote, Not Settling for Less than you Deserve

I've been thinking alot ...

How do you all define what it is you feel you "deserve"?

I struggle with identifying some of the things I feel I "deserve" as being "selfish" or possessing a sense of entitlement ... (i.e., financial stability, a goal-oriented man with a desire for a future home and children together, etc.) Of course some of the more known as well (loyalty, honesty, love, compassion)...

Thoughts?

  • I feel like I deserve more than someone who snuck behind my back and cheated on me with a woman he met on the internet while my mom was going through treatment for cancer. And that's about it.

The rest, I will work hard for. I will work hard to pay off my debt, I will work hard in my career, I will work hard to continue losing weight, I will work hard to maintain my friendships, and I will work hard to rebuild a life for myself.

  • I can provide most of what I want and deserve for myself. Income, Stability, Etc... What I can not provide for myself that I deserve is to be treated with kindness, love, and respect. To have someone really listen to me, give me affection, and support me. Someone who wants those things from me.

     Well said.

  • Great thought to wrap your head around....

In Chinese (I do not know Chinese language, but someone repeated this on a talk show), there are two different characters for "selfish."

One character for "selfish" is wanting the best for yourself.

The OTHER character for "selfish" is greedy, hurting others.

It is two different things.  It's ok to want the best for yourself.

  • Why wouldn't you be entitled to a guy who isn't going to drag you down by being a financial mess, or having no goals, or not wanting the same things out of the future that you do?  Love isn't a charity event; there's no unselfish moral value in being with someone who brings less to the table than you do.

  • To me "someone I deserve" doesn't conjur up feelings of entitlement. I simply know what I bring to the table in life and would add to a relationship, so I'm looking for someone who also possesses similar qualities.

    I deserve:

-someone who is hardworking, goal oriented, and successful (this does not mean that I am looking for someone who makes six figures a year, more someone who has a career that they are dedicated to, proud of, and excel in)

-someone who is honest and faithful

-someone who puts their relationship and family first

-someone who has many interests and seeks adventures in life, wants to travel, try knew things

-someone who cares about health and being physically active

-someone who takes care of themselves and takes pride in their appearance

-someone who truly listens and cares about me and someone who really wants to work together, who understands what true partnership means

All this.  I bring it to the table, so I deserve someone who can do the same.
