Thanks for all the encouragement earlier, ladies. I went. I actually went. It was OK. I'd do it again. I was definitely not the most uncoordinated person there, but it was clear others had been going for a while and knew the 'moves'. Some things I did learn though.
(1) I have absolutely no rhythm. Not a shred.
(2) I can move my arms. and I can move my legs. Sometimes I can move them together. At no time can I move them and my hips.
(3) My hips do not move like that. I am fairly certain if they did? I'd have a vastly different and more interesting sex life.
Also, Jaay, if you're reading this more than three people came up after class and commented on how well I stuck it out, or I really kept up, blah blah. I wanted to die. But, then one lady was really nice and took a different approach and told me that our teacher danced in Saturday Night Fever with Travolta. Which is awesome. I decided she was you. She was how you'd talk to someone at the gym ![]()
Re: Zumba - a Review
Glad you had fun!! And thats so cool about your teacher. The thing about dancing, that I am a firm believer in, is that the more you do it the better you get.
And to be fair, its possible the people noticed you were new because they hadn't seen you before and wanted you to stick around...nothing to do with fitness level.
Ditto, to all of the above. Worst. Dancer. Ever. You'd think after 6 years of band (and 4 summers of band camp no less), I'd have some rhythm. Apparently the clarinet is not a very sexy instrument.
Also, #3 made me laugh out loud.
And, I gotta say I admire your bravery for going alone. There's no way I'd do that.
Good for you for going alone. I hope you had enough fun to keep up with it. I really want to try it out, but have to wait until I'm bringing in some money again.
As for not being able to do the moves or have rhythm, the other day I was doing Zumba for the PS3. Alex asked what I was doing, so I told her I had to follow the lady on the TV. Alex looked at the TV, then me, and said "but you're not moving like her".
It sounds like it went well! I'm still nervous to set foot in a class so good for you for taking the initiative to go.
I'm glad you related me to the nice lady at the gym. I don't talk to people at the gym, but if I did I hope I would say something along those lines
If you keep going you can casually drop in conversation that you train with a Saturday Night Fever dancer. NBD.
I'm glad you like Zumba, sad that you didn't love it. I think we all feel stupid the first couple times we do it, but trust me you catch on AND your hips start to work better.
Also, like pp said, girls travel in flocks and I do go with my Aunt, all though now I've made friends with so many girls in the class that I just enjoy going for mommy time too. As far as the comment the other Zumba'ers made to you, I would totally take that as they want you to come back. I don't know how many girls I've seen try one class and then never come back, we want you to stay, we want you to try again and get better because we remember how weird it felt the first few times and that it is something that is so easy to say, "f*&C this I can't do that."
I've thought about becoming and instructor. How friggin' fun would that be!?!?
I don't know. I might prefer to go by myself the first few times. That way, if I look like a complete idiot at least I don't know the people who see me looking like an idiot.
Either way - good for you!
