special occasion ideas

DH and i will be celebrating 20 years in June! while we haven't been together all that time, we did fall in love then and have been in love ever since (through several other relationships, oops).

i'd like to plan something really special without breaking the bank. the actual day is a friday, so that makes things easy! i'll entertain any idea from an afternoon to an evening to a weekend, in town, out of town, and any type of activity. the only constraint is budget...i don't have more than $200 to put towards a celebration and i'd like to stretch it.

ready, set, go!

Re: special occasion ideas

  • Congratulations! 20 years is amazing!

Is there any way you can recreate your first date (or one of your first dates, if you broke up and got back together multiple times)? Not a 100% exact replica, especially if your first date wasn't in the DC area, but something similar.

  • our first real date (gah, we were in highschool!) was to the movie theater that used to be in pentagon city mall. our first date as reconnected adults was dinner at an italian restaurant in old town that is now gone.

most memorable date along the way: 4th of july fireworks atop his office building near dupont circle. the day is towards the end of june, i wonder if i can find a firework show that early!

Hmmmm, I may know of someone who may or may not have fireworks stored away that you could have.  Maybe some sparklers or something fun like that

  • Since you have time to plan, and a budget to work within, you might keep your eye out for a Living Social or Groupon deal for a local hotel or spa deal.  Re: Fireworks, Nats games sometimes have fireworks displays at the end of their games.  You could stroll along the Waterfront and catch that display if the schedule lines up.

this is a great idea! we both really like to be pampered and he'd totally be game for a spa day.

  • What about a B&B not too far (WV?) that has a spa, pool, hot tub.

  • Yeah, I would definitely recommend signing up for the Groupon Getaways/LS Escapes emails if you don't already get them.  Usually I see at least one getaway a week that is either in DC or nearby.

  • Wow! That's really sweet! I would try to re-create moment he asked you to be his girlfriend or something and use a photo of you two together from 20 years ago and make one of those magazine covers as a quirky keepsake. No suggestions on an activity but check out Groupon deals. A spa day sounds lovely!
