Komen refused a donation from my H's NRA chapter. So, guess the whole "saving women from breast cancer" is only interesting to you when it comes from organizations that make you look good.
This whole PP thing just confirmed for me that I'm right in giving to cancer charities OTHER than Komen.

And f00k the woman who don't have access to healthcare (like the majority of this country). Guess they better just write out their obituary now.

WTF??
Hell, Komen goes around suing any other charitable organization who uses the words 'for the cure'.
(I work in a nonprofit that deals w/ some ofour copyright issues--I understand Trademark is important, but FFS, quit being evil!)
I like it when I can give 'stuff'--but I know there's headache with that too.
(I get a lot of 'stuff' donated @ work...sometimes it's AWESOME. Sometimes I have to figure out what to do with it)
I do haev a rule that I research before giving MONEY and I make sure it's a 501-paperwork-filed-charity before I'll give cash.
But for 'stuff', I just keep an eye out and make things happen when I can. (hell, my big sis teaches in a crummy school. In the last year, she has gotten from me, 6 containers of hand soap [super de duper clearance], play doh [see above--I was out on black friday--she won't use it this year but she gave it to her kindergarten co-teacher] and, last week, 2 *really* nice backpacks that I got for under $5 each that she will be giving to a student who could use one.)
My giving budget is crappily small but that makes me all that much *more* picky about who I give to.
Total lurker here...
As a volunteer for another charity that does not pull crap like this - it pisses me off because it makes all charities look bad!
If anyone would like to divert their donations elsewhere, I know a good charity
Well I plan on diverting mine to PP, but what charity do you volunteer for?
The organization I volunteer with has had issues with this in the past too - everything now is "for Progress" for us.
I didn't post to generate donations but since you asked!
Pancreatic Cancer Action Network - I lost my dad to PC 5 years ago. $0.87 of every dollar goes to research and patient support for a cancer that is the 4th leading cause of cancer death in america, with a 6% 5 yr survival rate. No effective treatment, no cure, and no early diagnostic testing. Dad was diagnosed in June, died in January, typical life span is 3-6 months from diagnosis.
Thanks! I'll keep them in mind. I've heard that type of cancer has very low survival rates.
I'm sorry about you dad.
Thank you
I donated to PP last night after hearing the news~
This is a total disgrace and I hope the backlash is strong and powerful.
Don't delete it! Educate her. Let her know that abortion is just a teensy-tiny fraction of the services PP provides.
