Girls who have been to the FP.....
We are leaving for the FP in 29 days - woot woot!
As far as money....we aren't sure what to do. I know we can pay in American Dollars....should we take all cash with us and if so, how much should we budget per day? Some of the peeps on Trip Advisor suggested $500 a day (note that all of our excursions will be paid for before we leave) which might be a tad high as we plan to bring in alcohol duty free.
So, what has been your strategy? Paying in cash? Using your cc? How much have you budgeted per day?
Re: Girls who have been to the FP.....
Are any of your meals included in your hotel package? All breakfasts and most dinners were included for us, so we didn't spend nearly that much (especially not counting our excursions). At the hotels we charged everything to the room so we paid once for each hotel for most of our other meals, hotel expenses.
We used our card almost everywhere, except on our ATV tour in Moorea that only took cash. Our bank didn't charge us any foreign transaction fees, so we used our debit card when not paying cash.
We would also have breakfast, then a snack or something small for lunch, then our normal dinner. We didn't drink a whole lot outside of meals (we bought some wine duty free, and got bottles of champagne at each hotel since it was our honeymoon, which we drank at night in the room).
I hope this helps!
You can pay in USD at the hotels, but the exchange is horrible. I highly recommend using the ATM upon arrival at Faaa and then using your CC at the hotels. You will need Xpf, though, for smaller purchases at some stores or in some villages. I have also used ATMs in Huahine, Bora Bora, and Moorea all with success. I made sure I had enough money when I ventured off to Rangiroa and Tikehau. I didn't need cash when I went to Taha'a because each time I stayed on the resort motu and charged everything to my room then paid with a CC.
I think I spent around $200-$250 total per day for all food and drinks, but then activities can range from $80USDpp-$200pp (or a private motu picnic is almost $1K in BOB!). I usually just placed everything on my hotel bill because I waited to book my activities after I was there.
Our wedding on Wilson Island!
Great, thanks! We are a private boating tour of Bora Bora as well. So very excited!
