Who else has to POAS this month? (BC recall)

I don't think my lot numbers match since I buy every 3 months, but yeah. Pissed does not begin to describe.

http://yourlife.usatoday.com/health/story/2012-02-01/Pfizer-recalls-1M-birth-control-packs-after-mixup/52912626/1

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Pfizer Inc. is recalling 1 million packets of birth control pills because of a packaging error that could leave women with an inadequate dose of the hormone-based drugs and raise the risk that they will get pregnant accidentally.

The problem affects 14 lots of Lo/Ovral-28 tablets and 14 lots of generic Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets. Both products are manufactured by Pfizer and marketed in the U.S. by Akrimax Rx Products under the Akrimax Pharmaceuticals brand.

Pfizer found that some packets of the drugs had too many active tablets, while others had too few. Oral birth control products use a series of 21 drug tablets and 7 inactive sugar tablets to regulate the menstrual period while providing contraception.

A company spokeswoman said the problem was caused by both mechanical and visual inspection failures on the packaging line. She said the problem has been corrected.

Pfizer issued a statement saying the problem was identified and corrected immediately. The recall is not related to safety but does raise the risk of unintended pregnancy. Patients with the affected lot numbers should return them to the pharmacy.

The affected packets have expiration dates ranging between July 31, 2013, and March 31, 2014. Lot numbers are available at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm289770.htm

The drugs were distributed to warehouses, clinics and retail pharmacies throughout the U.S.

  • OMG!  How did that get through!?  There's gonna be a lot of babies in 9 months...

I wasn't on either of those but I would have been PISSED if I had been.  1 more reason why I <3 my Mirena!

  • Oof! I can also see the law suits now. It costs X amount of money to raise a child, so you should be responsible for that cost, plus pain and suffering. God knows there would be a LOT of suffering.

I remember when I was younger I bought a pack of condoms. THREE in a row broke. (Not using any lubricant that would would jeopardize the condoms either.) I returned the pack and the pharmacist said, "I'm sorry if this happens to result in an inconvenience." Ahhhh, yeah. It's a little more than an inconvenience TYVM.

Whaaaat?  She would have been better off not saying anything!

  • When I go home tonight, I'm going to look at mine. I don't know how long they are good for, as I have not taken any BCP since I got my BFP Dec 2010.....
  • I'm on Yaz, but that's crazy!

  • Yeah, let me tell ya... if I got pregnant because of this, Pfizer would be paying for me to raise that kid... including college tuition.

hehe the only good I could see of the situation. The kid would get a great education on Pfizer (how do you pronouce it anyway?) money.

Seriously though, I wonder how many September & October babies there will be now?

Are they included in the recall?

Are these pill color coded? Often the placebos are a different color from the rest. Was there any sign of a screw up? I'd be pretty upset by this.

I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns

I know it's the kind I take. I'll have to see when I get home if it's the same distributor. But I take that exact kind. I really wouldn't be surprised, honestly, and it would explain a little better how someone who takes my pills at the same time every day religiously managed to get pregnant while on them.

    Oh, FFS.
  • My lot numbers don't line up, booyah.  Though we'll use condoms for the rest of the month anyway because I'm nuts.

Malibu, if I were you I'd keep an ear to the ground in terms of class action lawsuits.

    THIS, definitely.

  • Oh, I will be. Mine is part of the recall. Already have message into the doctor to change it ASAP. Guess part of the mystery is solved...
    Oh, FFS.
