BR: help me feed my child

Charlotte is at the odd stage of solids/purees and I am out of ideas for feeding her. She has 4 teeth (two top, two bottom) so bites aren't an issue. I think I am just worried too much. She LOVES table food, but I need to get in the habit of her eating dinner with us vs. playing in her high chair and I am at a loss for what to feed her. She loves adult food but I guess I am just being a worry wart. What do you feed your child (mind you she is pretty much 9 months) with teeth who loves to eat?

Re: BR: help me feed my child

  • some of Ellie's faves were and still are:

    scrambled eggs with cheese

pasta with meat sauce (I just let her go crazy and gave her a bath after)

fruit salad (halved blueberries, sliced strawberries, sliced bananas, canned mandarin orange segments)

cubed kielbasa with seasoned brown rice (I just used mrs. dash, salt, pepper)

    Kashi TLC cereal bars

steamed mixed veggies with butter and garlic

    raw snap peas

    string cheese

    yogurt

    applesauce

fresh apples, peeled cored and sliced thin

grilled or sauteed chicken tenderloins, seasoned with salt and pepper, with ketchup for dipping

for an occasional dessert/treat, we let her have a pudding cup or some fruit snacks.

  • applesauce, mashes potatoes, yogurt, bread, umm... I'm trying to think back....

ETA:... or just look at Ames' list.  She wins! :D

  • We pretty much give Teaghan anything we are eating as long as it appropriate. If it is something spicy than I hold off. If we are eating something she can't have I have baked nuggets or baby raviolis in my freezer and I will cook them up with a veggie for her.

She loves almost everything so I just put stuff on her tray and let her explore. If I notice she didn't eat a lot I will give her some puree afterwards. She really has no problem eating anything and she only has two teeth.

So far she has had pork, chicken, beef and no problems with anything chewing wise I just make sure its small enough. She also eats rice, mashed potatoes, veggies, really anything we are eating.

El does too! Sometimes we toss some ground beef and caramelized onions into that and call it a meal.

MB's grilled cheese suggestion is another great one!

Hahaha funny that.... Samma loves Buffalo Chicken dip.  She wouldn't stop whining at us when we were eating it one day, so we let her try some, and all she wanted was more and more.  *shrug*  It was also being pregnant with her that got me accustomed to jalapeno poppers and buffalo chicken fingers so who knows??

  • This helps a ton! Thanks- I just forget when I am shopping sometimes that she needs this type of food. I am making a Charlotte trip after work before I pick her up to stock up on some things. I appreciate the help!

  • Thanks for asking this!  Now that Alex finally has some top teeth coming in we can explore more with food variations for him with more solids and less mashed/pureed stuff.  He also LOVES Anne's white cheddar mac and cheese, any pasta with any sauce really and chicken meat balls (or spears, because he's recently decided he doesn't like the ball shape and prefers it to be like a stick even though it's the same exact mixture lol).

I need to do better with getting fresh fruits for him, he loves avocado and apples and bananas but we haven't done any berries yet except for what's in his purees.  It's hard because I feel like end up throwing a lot of fresh stuff away now that we life far away from the store.

  • Thanks for posting this Kel, this helps me too.

What age did you guys start introducing this stuff?  Kyler will be 8 months on Saturday and I wanted to do Baby Led Weaning with him, but he refused to put anything in his mouth that way, so I broke down and started chunky purees to get him used to different tastes and textures.  He hasn't had anything outside of various veggies and fruits and occasional ground meats so far.
