    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? My mom not talking to me. For whatever reason, her silence and disappoint was more damaging to me than any other kind of punishment. Not really different public/private. I learned a lot from my sister though, so I didn't act out often, if ever.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) Sane dinner as them

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) I did competitive dance and gymnastics for fun.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) nope, we had a computer, but we were only allowed to use it for school

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? yes

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? no

ETA: I also played softball for like 12 years, as well.

  • 1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? In public my mom would hold my hand and dig her nail into just enough that I wouldn't yelp, but I knew I'd be in trouble otherwise. At home, I was grounded often, but she was pretty lenient.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna)
Nope, I ate what mom made and that was that. But, she never cooked things that were horribly disgusting to a kid, like liver.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) I did gymnastics for a few years and I also ran on track for a year. I did cheerleading for one JV season, then I did dru, I mean, got a job.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) I didn't even have cable! The horror! What is MTV?

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? I don't know. I think people need to get off the fast food though.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? No way. I think PE is good. Gets otherwise inactive kids moving and socializing. They can do better on how they pick teams as to not single kids out, but I think having kids involved in PE is good.

    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? TBH, I don't remember misbehaving in public at all. If I misbehaved, I scolded. Occasionally, i was spanked

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) Absolutely not. We ate the same thing. And that's the way it is here at my house w/SS

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) No. We were very poor growing up and could not afford any of these things

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)  Nope. We did own a go-kart!

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? Unfortunately, yes. I drop off SS every morning and pick him up every afternoon and I can see how big these kids are in HS. They are FAT

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? No. A little exercise never hurt anyone

  • 1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? Abject fear. My parents never had to punish through grounding, spanking, etc. because of the level of guilt associated. Fear of dissapointing them was way worse.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) No, and we were vegan, so we ate "weird" food.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) No. I could have if I wanted to, but I'm about the least athletic person ever.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) No. We didn't even have a tv until I was in highschool, and then we were only allowed to watch PBS a few hours a week.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? Not with the correct education.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? Yes and no. My PE classes were a complete joke and no one was getting the slightest bit of actual exercise out of them. But I think that it's possible to be done in a good way.

    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? We were spanked until I was around 10-11? If we were in public my dad used to squeeze my hand super tight and then I knew I was going to receive whatever punishment when I got home. During my teenage years I just was grounded.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) Nope, the same. They did take into consideration things we didn't like but we had to try them first.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) We did home games (basketball, football) in our yard. They also let me take swimming for a while.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) Yes to all of the above. The rule was: none on the weekdays, and limited on the weekends. If we were grounded then it was none at all.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? They could be, but that's kind of a big assumption.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? No.

The answers in parentheses are about my younger brother and sister (21 and 20 now), otherwise they're for me and my bro (31 and 29 now).
    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public?  no dessert, going to bed after dinner, being sent to my room, spanking when we were younger.  (nothing!  maybe they got grounded when they were older, but not that I recall)

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna)  We were poor so we all ate hot dogs or macaroni, lol.  (they were definitely allowed to be pickier, and didn't have to drink milk with dinner every night!)

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?)  Not really.  Gym was always my least favorite class.  (yes)

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)  yeah, super nintendo.  We weren't allowed on the computer either - it was when AOL came out and the internet was NEW!

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity?  No, but poor people are.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum?  YES - what a waste of time!  Do some more math!!

  • 1. Basically, I would get yelled/spoken sternly at, which was usually enough to keep me in line. I think there were a few times that I got no TV for a set amount of time as a punishment.

    2. No, not a whole meal. Sometimes, if they were having a vegetable that I really hated, I could eat some carrot sticks instead.

    3. I dabbled in a lot of stuff: gymnastics, tennis, ballet, volleyball, basketball, but I never did one thing for a very long time.

    4. We had...Atari. Yup, I'm that old. I actually didn't play it all that much after the inital thrill of getting it wore off.

    5. Not necessarily

    6. Heck no. However, I do think that phys ed teachers need to do a better job (than mine did) of making exercise actually FUN!

  • 1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public?  I knew not to misbehave in public.  My parents' disappointment was enough for me.  I was occasionally (but very rarely) spanked.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) Ate the same thing

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?)  Baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball, and I took dance classes.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)  My brother owned some that I would sometimes play but not often.  I wasn't interested.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity?  Not necessarily.  It's definitely a HUGE issue, but some of it is finally being brought to everyone's attention and some companies are even eliminating ingredients like HFCS.  I really hope it starts to get better, but it's hard to tell.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum?  No.  I think kids should be taught the importance of physical exercise and especially nutrition.  We're faced with choosing and eating foods every day and it impacts our health in the future.  Parents should be teaching their kids this, but let's face it...some are just ignorant in this area and I really think it's important to learn these things.

  •   1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? My mom overdid it on the discipline, IMO. I was spanked, then grounded, severely reprimanded and even verbally abused. I grew up in fear of my mother.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna)
No way. The only exception was that if my mom made something that none of liked, such as liver, she would make us something else, but we were expected to eat at least 1 bite of liver.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) Nope. I wasn't allowed to.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) Yep, at different points we had an Atari, Nintendo and a Playstation.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? No, because I think people are getting better educated on being healthier.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? No way.

  • 1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? - we got spanked at home.  I don't remember what happened in public, to be honest.  My parents said they only had to spank me like twice in my life.  My brother on the other hand...

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) - I did, I was an extremely picky eater, and my mom catered to me.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) - yes, I did lacrosse, soccer and softball

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)
     - I'm dating myself here, but we had Atari, and got the Nintendo when it first came out
    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? - I wouldn't say doomed, but they do have a lot more things to keep them sedentary

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? - Nope, I think it's awful.  My stepdaughter has it every day, I think that's great
  • 1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? - we got spanked at home.  In public we would have been yanked out of where ever we were and taken home and either sent to our room or spanked or both
    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) -no, we ate what she made and if we didn't want to eat it, we didn't eat

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) - Yes, gymnastics from 3yrs old through high school

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) - We had Atari and then Nintendo, but I didn't have much interest

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? I don't think doomed for it, but it is a much higher risk than when I was young.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? - No, but I would also rather them gear it more towards fitness

    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public?  I was spanked a few times but rarely did anything wrong.  My brothers would have the nintendo taken away.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna)
Never.  We didn't have strict rules on finishing our plate, but if we didn't like what they made it was too bad.  I believe we had to try it even if we thought we didn't like it.  We did not have any restrictions on snacking at any time but I guess we never really had junk food in the house.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?)  In grade school (went to a private school, everyone made the team).  I didn't play sports beyond that.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)  We had a nintendo from the time I was probably 8 but I hated it.  We got a computer when I was maybe 11 or 12.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum?  Absolutely NOT

  • 1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? When I was little, I got a "stearn talking to" and time out for misbehaving.  As I got older, I was grounded from specific things (tv, phone, car, friends, etc.)  My mom said that I only misbehaved in public once.  She was getting groceries and I was throwing a tantrum about wanting a candy bar.  She actually handed her full cart of groceries over to the bag boy and said she'd be back for it, took me immediately out of the store and drove me home.  She explained why I was wrong, spanked my bottom, put me in time out, and left me with my dad for the rest of the afternoon so she could go back and purchase the groceries.  Apparently, I didn't act out to that magnitude ever again.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) Mom barely ate anyway (80's fad diets and all) and dad worked late every night, so she'd make my bro and I dinner and save the rest for dad.  When my dad quit that business we moved farther north and owned a steakhouse, and until I was old enough to drive, I'd take the bus to the restaurant and watch tv in an area they set up for me in the basement. We literally put in our idividual orders to dad (who was the grill cook) every night.  When I got my license, I made my own dinner at home.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) Nope.  I've never been athletic.  I was on swim team for a minute, and I was a wrestling cheerleader for 3 years.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) My brother did, so I did, too.  That is, when he wasn't home, I'd play his original Nintendo and Atari.  Thanks to my hubbs, I am now the not-so-proud owner of more gaming systems than I can count.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? No, I think we're in an upswing toward healthy eating again.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? No, but I do think there should be more alternatives than just "gym class" so kids can explore a bit and find a physical activity they actually like.

In my high school if you were in a varsity sport in season during the semester, you didn't have to take a gym class. I thought (and still do) that was a good idea because you know those kids are getting good exercise outside of the regular school day and it freed up their schedule to take more academic classes. (BTW, marching band and indoor colorguard counted as varsity sports in this case.)

    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? Sent to our rooms.  We didn't have cell phones or any of that shiz, so it was a pretty good punishment.  Boredom.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) No, if we didn't like what was for dinner, we were hungry.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) not really.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)we eventually got a nintendo at one point.

  • 1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public?
Spanked, mouth washed out with soap for saying "butthead", and yelled at. Eventually I was grounded.
    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna)

No. You get what you get and you don't throw a fit. (Sometimes there were exceptions - i.e. spicy foods)

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?)

Yes. I miss it, actually, and am considering joining an adult league.
    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)

I owed some educational computer game, and eventually had a gameboy. My brother had a Sega and playstation, so I sometimes played.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity?

    If something isn't done, yes.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum?

Not at all. However, I agree with PPs that PE classes should be more informative and have variety. Plus, make it more fun.

My mom l;oves to tell the story of how I slapped her in church when Iw as 2, but other than that...
     2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) Nope, I ate what mom made and that was that.

  • 1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public?

We got spanked.  My mom tried not to spank in public, but she would immediately leave if we were acting up and go home and give us an even worse spanking.  Then the next time in public when mom said "do we have to leave?" we knew to straighten out otherwise we were getting it 10x worse when we got home.

ETA:  once we got older, grounding was obviously used instead since it was more effective.  But overall, we were pretty well behaved because the punishments were severe enough that they only needed to happen once.  I think I was only spanked once for acting out in public, and only grounded once as a teen.

The punishment for not cleaning our rooms was the worst though.  If we didn't clean our room after 3 or 4 times of my mom telling us to, she would "clean" it.  That meant sweeping everything off our dressers, under our beds, out of the closet, out of all the drawers (including clean folded clothes) and putting it in a big pile in the middle of the room and we weren't allowed to leave until it was all put away and organized.  It's a step up from what my grandma did to my mom though.  She did the same thing, only at 2am and flipped them out of their mattresses while they were sleeping and they weren't allowed to go back to bed until it was done...and they weren't allowed to sleep in afterwards either.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna)

Hell no.  We weren't even allowed the option of not eating anything.  If my mom cooked it, we ate it, and we had to sit at the dinner table for as long as it took to finish it, no question about it.  My sister was once at the dinner table until 11pm, dinner was served at 6.  She had to sit there while the rest of us watched her favorite movie and had dessert in the other room until she finished eating.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?)

No sports, but we always played outside.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)

We got a playstation when I was in jr high, but even then, we were only allowed to play it for an hour a day.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity?

Yes, statistically, it's already happening.  There are more obese kids now than ever, and I don't see much efforts to change it, so I imagine it will continue to get worse.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum?

No.  Even if kids did get plenty of exercise at home after school, I think the need for breaking up the day and making kids be active helps them focus more when they are in class.

I agree. So many studies have proven this!

  •  1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? I don't remember misbehaving in public but my mom was a fan of spanking with a healthy dose of verbal abuse.
     2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) I ate what was served for dinner.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) I played basketball for a few years.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) I had Nintendo.
    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? It depends on how parents' feed their kids. Huge fast food meals or homemade crap food and no physical activity is a recipe for obesity.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? No! I bet that's the only physical activity some kids get all day.
  • 1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? Home: spanking. Mom had a smoothed out 2x4 with and handle. If she didn't have the stick, she would use her bare hand to the back of our bare thighs. Public: either embarassment or a threat of a spanking when we got home. By the time I was a teen, I had learned enough from watching my older siblings, so I didn't get into too much trouble then.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) Same. I personally know a couple who all they feed their children is chicken nuggets, weenies, pringles, rice and ketchup. And the mother's occupation is a nutritionalist... touchy subject.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) Started basketball in 2nd grade; played til 10th grade. Track in JH and HS. Powerlifting jr and sr years.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) No video games. When we finally got a computer, I was able to play a game that helped me practice my typing skills.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? If parents allow their kids to play video games all day and feed them fast food, yes. I think the fate of younger generations' weight is based on what they are taught in school and also the habits that their parents instill in them.
    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? No. Kids need to be taught how to live a healthy life. Physical fitness is one way to stay healthy.

    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? Nope not different. Usually had the crap beat out of us and then had to run miles (no matter what weather) instead my parents said stop.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) Nope. Same thing on the same day every weeks. Mondays were noodles and corn, Tuesdsays were something else, etc.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) I played on the basketball team for a while until my parents yanked that away from me.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) I had a computer but only had solitaire on it.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? No but there needs to be more of an emphasis of them doing activities outside, playing, and doing stuff away from gaming systems and tv.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum?
No!!!!!!! I think PE should be required for every year of schooling. Never hurt us.

    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public?

Mom spanked me. Not hard just enough to sting. I can not recall EVER acting out in public. According to my mom I was a very well behaved child as a teenager...not so much ( very mouthy).

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna)
    No

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?)
Nope. I've always been more of a bookworm like my mom.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)
I had a Nintendo, a tv in my room, a stereo in my room and my own phone line ( all when I was a teenager though).

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity?
Not if their parents teach them at a young age that all is fine in moderation. Ie, dh and I eat out once a week the rest of the time I cook healthy meals.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum?
    No

    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? Stuff was taken away from me. If we were in public we would leave wherever we were.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna)
sometimes but this was because I went to my grandmother's while my mom worked so I ate whatever she made and usually was not hungry for what mom was making.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) As a kid, I was into dancing, singing, and acting. I competed with Dance and gymnastics.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)  not a single one.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? I was a very thin child and I ate like crap so hopefully there is hope for the future.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? I dont know to be honest. I hated Gym as a kid. I always was the last one picked because I had 0 athleticism. I actually chose my high school because we didn't have to take gym. It was just another reason for me to be teased for being nerdy so I hated it!

    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? I got "time out" -- when i was older I got grounded. If I misbehaved in public, we stopped whatever it was and went home. I didn't want to go home, so usually, the threat was enough.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) Good god know, whatever they had, I had. I did, however, sometimes get to help pick what I wanted to eat (like pick the veggie)

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) Soccer year round and Swimming in the summer

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) No.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? I think if parents were more involved and less lazy themselves they wouldn't be.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? Hell no! I also think Dodge Ball should be in full swing. PE was awesome when i was a kid.

  • 1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? I got spankings for misbehaving.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna) Yes, I was a very picky eater and my parents foolishly complied.

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) Yes I was always on sprts teams from little league through high school.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation) My brothers had them, I didn't play them though.

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? Yes

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? Yes and no.  I think it is good for children to get some physical activity however I don't think gym should be included in GPA calcuation.

    1) What was your punishment for misbehaving? Was it different if you misbehaved in public? Spanked, sometimes with the belt if it was really bad. In public my mom had a pinch she would do right under my arm in the sensitive spot she knew how to find in a flash. The pinch hurt like the devil but wasn't obvious to onlookers so it really worked for the most part.

    2) Did you eat a different dinner than your parents? (chicken nuggets, while they ate lasagna)
    same dinner

    3) Did you play any sports/regular physical activity? (on teams?) A couple seasons in soccer & swim team. Dance at a young age.

    4) Did you own any video games? (computer, gameboy, N64, sega, playstation)  we had a Nintendo

    5) Do you think younger generations are doomed for obesity? Meh, not if they use the knowledge available to stay healthy.

    6) Do you agree that schools should be eliminating Physical Education from their curriculum? HECK NO, that would possibly put my H out of a job.
