Tax Question

So my H is a substitute teacher and he gets paid a month behind so for all the work he does in january he won't see on a paycheck until the last day of february. Anyways we moved to eastern wa last december and he got a W2 for the school district he worked for in 2010 for us to file this year. He didn't work for that district AT ALL in 2011 but do we still have to file it because I'm assuming it was his paycheck in January 11 for the work he did in December 10?

Re: Tax Question

  • if they sent him a W2, i'd file it... the W2 probably says "2011 earnings" on it. if it says "2010", i'd discard it.

  • Yeah, I report what I was paid during the year, not the work I did.

Yeah, I report what I was paid during the year, not the work I did.
Which is why it makes no sense that for medical bills, even though my billing is for December, I didn't receive it in January and it goes to the 2012 tax filing, not my 2011. Weird.
