Professional Wardrobe
I am looking to transition from a clinical job to a non-clinical job. How much would you budget for a new wardrobe? I would like to buy quality pieces that will last. I can add to it overtime, but need more than the two suits that I own.

A new wardrobe can be expensive but if you shop it just right you could easily add a lot to the closet. When I moved to LA I had to go from a business casual to a business "extreme" professional wardrobe which mean a suit every single day. I became a regular shopper of Ann Taylor and The Limited. I found that they usually have some great deals on clearance. For example, I purchased 5 suits, 6 button down shirts, and three dresses for around $650. Then each month I would add one or two pieces. I also joined their email list to get coupons.
Another place to look is a higher end recycled clothing store. In AZ we have a few My Sister's Closets and they only sell nicer quality items. I have picked up a lot of piece there for less than a 1/3 of the regular price.
Don't forget shoes!!
I had to transition from my stay home, jeans and t, to professional everyday. I had bought a suit for my interview, so I had one suit, but then I bought a few tops and cardigans, and two pairs of trousers. I shopped a lot of sales rack at Tjmaxx, Kohls, and old navy. I had enough outfits for a week and then mixed and matched, as I could afford or needed I started adding more suits and pieces to my wardrobe. I didn't have to buy any shoes or handbags.
I shop at Ann Taylor a lot, you can't beat the final sale prices. I recently bought two suits, one final sale+40% off and one sale + 40% off and my total was $180.
I like Jcrew tops better than Ann Taylor, they are a little more fun/stylish and better material.
In the end, my advice is to start slow, don't shop in one store and don't spend all your budget at once, buy enough to carry you for a while, once you get the feel for how you can dress at the office, then slowly add more pieces.
