We received our gas bill yesterday and I almost fell over. It was $175.00 and it wasn't even that cold in December! I know I shouldn't complain when others get $300-400 gas bills, but I was surprised because I didn't think the heat was on that much since it was kind of warm.
Re: PGW
Maybe you are right. The temps were so up and down maybe our 1953 Bryant Furnace was actually working harder lol. Last year when it was subzero outside I think our highest bill was around last month's bill (our house is only about 900 sq feet). Plus our hot water tank busted a hole this weekend so maybe the tank was already dying and working more? We shall see next month after the new tank is installed.
Ours was 114. But I don't know when that is from (DH gets emails that our bill is due, I have to have him print some out so I can compare with this new heater we have).
I am very curious to see as this new heater seems to be running an awful lot, even though I know its energy efficient, I don't want to get whopped with a 400 gas bill. Past winters, though we have paid no more that 290, and our house is 900 sq ft.
our heater is from 1962! but our house is 2600 sq feet and we run EVERYTHING on gas. so i am little shocked by your bill now. might be the hot water heater we actually have a fairly new one.
Well the new hot water tank went in today so we shall see. The old one was from 1988. I guess the prior owners got their money's worth. As crazy as it sounds, this gas bill was the highest one we received since we moved in our house last January. Again, I was surprised because it wasn't that cold. I know high gas bills in the winter are to be expected. Our dryer is gas but we didn't use it any more than we normally do. Ditto for cooking and showers.
I just got off the phone with my mom and she said her gas bill seemed high this month too. Her house is way bigger than mine. Maybe PGW was afraid of losing money due to the warm weather lol.
