Rome: 2 Nights (Need Food Recs)
I will be in Rome for just two nights this month.
Do you have any restaurant recommendations for me?
Price is not an issue, although making reservations at this late date may be. We have no major dietary restrictions, and we enjoy low-end and high-end meals.
Thanks!

Copy and pasted from a friend (he lived in Italy for years) for our favorite restaurant in Rome:

Naumachia Ristorante has great pasta (cooked just right), and is within walking distance of the Colosseum. We have had lunch here. Their veal is really tender, but at a glance I do not see it on the menu. http://www.naumachiaroma.com/
It's not super classy, but I loved getting pizza at Sacro e Profano, a block or two from the Trevi Fountain. It's in a former church, and they put in a huge oven right in the middle. We sat up in the balcony with a great view of the oven so we could watch them cooking the pizza. Plus the food was great!

Also, right around the corner is an awesome gelateria, San Crispino, which has lots of really weird and creative flavors, like whiskey or bourbon gelato, plus the regular standard flavors.

(sorry for the italian websites)
Agreed with pp about Armando al Pantheon. I thought they tried a little too hard with one dish we tried (Spaghetti alla Claudio), but otherwise it was excellent. Over a year later, my husband still talks about the spelt soup, of all things.
We also really liked the food (but not so much the house wine) at Taverna Romana in Monti. Also, the experience was hysterical as the owners and staff take "gruff" to a new level. This review explains things better: http://www.budgettravel.com/feature/eat-like-a-local-rome,234/?page=1
Bah, stupid nest. Sorry about the duplicate post.
When we went to Rome, the people we stayed with gave us this list they compiled whenever their guests asked the same questions. We only ate off this list and never had a bad meal. My husband went to Rome three more times and only ate of this list and loved every restaurant he went to:

Barbie Nadeau's Favorite Restaurants in Rome's Jewish Quarter
Sora Margherita (Riazza della Cinque Scole +39 06 6874216)
There are few places left in Rome that embody the spirit of this city like Sora Margherita. There is no sign on the outside of the building, but you'll know you are there by the line to get in. The food, scrawled on a handwritten menu, is traditional Roman-Jewish cuisine, and they have the best (bar non) fried artichokes in the city. Make a reservation but get there early and prepare to wait since the locals get preferential treatment.
Al Pompiere (Via Santa Maria dei Calderari 38 +39 06 6868377)
For a slightly more upmarket experience in the heart of the quarter, climb the narrow stairway to Al Pompiere, a neighborhood favorite. The setting is great-frescoed walls and wood-beam ceilings, and the view out ontot he Piazza della Cinque Scole and quaint streets are great compliments to the food. The stewed oxtail with celery and tomatoes top the list.
Sora Lella (Via Ponte Quattro Capi 16 +39 06 6861601)
Smack on Tiber Island, just across the walking bridge from the quarter, is one of the city's most wonderful dining experiences. The restaurant is named after Sora Lella, famed actor Aldo Fabrizi's sister, who opened the restaurant during the height of the Second World War. The restaurant has since been a favorite among Rome's glitterati. The food is consistently good, and the best items on the menu are those laced with eggplant.
Spirito di Vino (Via dei Genovesi 31A/B +39 06 5896689)
Just across from the Tiber Island from the quarter is what locals refer to as the quiet side of Trastevere, far enough away from the bustling Piazza Santa Maria to escape the chaos, but still characteristic of this medieval district of Rome. The dining experience at Spirito di Vino in the heart of this area is about much more than food, which is never disappointing. The owner, Francesco, walks clients through the menu, discussing the history of the recipes and why they are on the menu. The best is the stewed pork, which marinates for days and is based on a recipe favored by Caesar. As if that's not enough, he will also take you down to the cellar, which sits in the ruins of an ancient synagogue and which now houses the extensive wine cellar.
Le Mani in Pasta (Via dei Genovesi 37 +39 06 581 6017)
Easily the best restaurant in this part of Rome, Le Mani in Pasta (which translates as ?hands in pasta?) offers up some of the most innovative new Roman cuisine in the city. The best items on the menu are those the waiter suggests, and they are so proud of their chef, the kitchen is in full view behind a glass wall on the main floor of the restaurant. What's best when your food is served, he watches intently to see if you like it and you will. Try the fresh artichoke antipasti laced with paper thin mushrooms and shards of parmesan cheese-if it's not on the menu, ask them for it.
Formula 1 (Uno)
Local place---within walking distance of the main train station...best pizza I've ever had in my life, and the restaurant has this slightly odd but cool race car theme.
Via degli Equi 13, Rome, Italy06-4453-8661
this was our favorite restaurant in rome and one of our top 3 meals during two weeks in italy. you should be able to e-mail for a reservation.
I saved this from our trip to Rome in May:
Disclaimer: apart from Mario's (recommended on here by Laptop), we stumbled on all the restaurants by looking for places that were recommended & that we ended up not liking the look of...
So, I agree with her & recommend trying Mario (Spagna area), I had the cacio e pepe pasta and it was delish: http://www.ristorantemario.net/homepage.html
For pre-dinner drinks & a nibble, we liked Obika mozzarella bar http://www.obika.it/english/restaurant-in-rome.html (we went to the piazza di firenze one): from 7pm you get a mini antipasti plate with your drinks for 2?. Well worth it & different every day. Also great for actual appetizers off the menu. Loved their vodka cocktail with basil but will say they are inconsistent - just say something & they'll rectify.
Stumbled onto Cybo on the way back from the vatican, it's just around the corner from piazza navona: http://www.cyboroma.it/ Absolutely yummy octopus carpaccio with shavings of celery & also loved the sort of canneloni with porcini and ricotta. H loved the mini gnocchi (and he doesn't like gnocchi usually).
Can't remember the name but went to a place a block away from Cesaretto in the street crossing via bocca di leone that was great - quite easy to spot, everything is white.
We were aiming for dinner at il bacaro http://www.ilbacaro.com/ but they were fully booked (and very unpleasant, even for Romans) so we ended up at Maccheroni http://www.ristorantemaccheroni.com/ accross the street and everything was delicious. Would heartily recommend sharing bruschetta to start & the scampi/cherry tomatoes pasta afterwards.
Will try to get to il bacaro another time as all reviews are amazing but the location is not as pretty as shown as cars drive right past the terrace and the street is pretty narrow there.
