XE.com update

So for those of you that were wondering about setting up an XE account... after all the verifications, they approved my account.

I then sent a wire transfer from my UK account to my US account. I thought that was all you have to do, and didn't receive a confirmation email (not sure why). That was on Friday.. yesterday I checked the status and they still hadn't received the funds or debted my account so I called them. I should have received an email telling me to make a payment (as you would to a credit card or friends account) to their account. I did this yesterday afternoon.

I checked before lunch today and the money was in my US account already!

It's considered a wire transfer ... I'm not sure about the other options and if they are slower/cheaper as it cost 12.50GBP for them to process it, then Bank of America charged me another 12USD. So I would only use for large amounts of money really (as these seem set fees).

Those of you that use it/have used it... should I have not done a wire transfer? Are there cheaper ways?

All in all, it was a pretty simple process and when I called to speak to someone, the customer service was great.

Re: XE.com update

  • I always make my trades by ETF (electronic funds transfer) via their website and there are no fees.

  • Ah thanks neeps - I will definitely do that next time. How long does it take to process?
  • In the past when I've just transferred money from my Deutsche Bank account to my US one there's been a set fee of 30?, so it seems to be a little cheaper than that, but not much. Not worth setting up the xe account for me, anyway.

For me it takes 2-3 days.
