Indianapolis Restaurant Recs?

Anyone?  Anyone?

Thanks so much. Smile

Re: Indianapolis Restaurant Recs?

  • I'm going there for the Superbowl this weekend, it's my first time in Indy.  MH travels there often for work and he said St. Elmo Steak House is excellent for steaks, but they are known for their shrimp cocktail sauce.  It's super spicy and there must be crack in it because he said it's that good.

Unfortunately, no time to check it out but we are planning to go to a bar that has the same owner(s) as St. Elmo but the shrimp cocktail is just as good but the kitchen stays open later.  I don't know what the name of that bar is.  I can find out for you.

  • I'm excited for you!

Our friends are going to the Super Bowl, too, and they asked me about food.

    I was like, "I don't know.  I've never been."

    And here I am.  LOL.

  • Thanks!  If I get more recs, I'll be sure page you with the details.

I just saw the MM thread, lol.  We're headed to Rathskeller too for an event.  I am hoping that it's as good as the Rathskeller in Munich.  We shall see.  or taste.

I wonder if that Harry & Izzy's place is the bar that I mentioned earlier.  Sounds like it based on what was posted on MM.

Harry & Izzy's is the bar!

  • Thank you, Indylady!  I am very excited for this shrimp cocktail.  It's a very Weight Watchers friendly food that I happen to enjoy.
  • Woohoo!  Everybody wins in this thread!

    Thanks, guys.

  • St Elmo's is great- the shirmp cocktail is very good.

I am not a huge fan of Rathskellar's food, but it is a fun atmosphere.

There are lots of chains- my favorite chain being Capitol Grille, but Morton's is also nice.

Not a huge fan of Palomino.

The Eagle's Nest is a great place to go for drinks and dessert to see the city view.

Saffron Cafe for Morracan food, Bazzbeaux's has great pizza, and Cafe Patachou for breakfast, 14 West, Mesh on Mass are also restaurants I enjoy.

Hope you have a great time!  I work all weekend, so hope the traffic is not horrible.

Le Peep is good for breakfast.

  • I've heard good things about St. Elmos.  Also, it is a chain and your friends probably won't be interested but I really liked Spaghetti Factory.  This was like 7 years ago though so it may not even be open anymore.
  • We were there for a playoff game a few years ago, and went to the Spaghetti Factory.   We really liked it!

  • A few weeks ago I saw a restaurant called Zest that was featured on the Food Network.  It looked amazing! I do have an aquaintance that lives in the area, and she said it was "okay," but I'm not sure what she ordered. I think it would still be worth looking in to.

Also, one of the local Chicago programs did a segment on " quick summer getaways" to Indianapolis and mentioned Plump's Last Shot (for bar food) and South of Chicago Pizza.

Take my recommendations with a grain of salt since I've never been there, but they all looked pretty good!
