Which is better? Downtown Disney or Downtown Orlando?
We need to get a hotel for this Saturday for our cruise (which leaves Sunday). Which area is better - Downtown Orlando or Downtown Disney?
TIA!
I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.

If you want to enjoy some Disney fireworks, you can also enjoy the food and entertainment on the Disney Boardwalk (near Epcot).

What do you plan to do that Saturday night? People are right in that there really isn't much to do in Downtown Orlando (they have some places to eat - I recommend Hamburger Mary's - and some night clubs, movie theater) but I am not sure how much more of an experience you would get out of staying at Downtown Disney really either (unless you see one of the shows there or like go to Disney Quest).
If you just plan to get dinner, then it might be easier/better to book a hotel on/near Cocoa Beach??
Thanks for the suggestions.... but I think we'll be staying in the Downtown Orlando area.
Jimmy Buffet, one of DH's favorite performers, is going to be at the Amway Center, so that sealed it for us!
Besides, I'm going to be on a Disney cruise, and so I'd rather keep the Disney glorification to a minimum and wait until the cruise.
I'm surprised by how many people say there isn't much to do in downtown Orlando. I feel like Downtown Disney gets way too crowded and you wait forever at the restaurants. Downtown Orlando is more of a locals scene and not as many tourists, but there are a lot of great places to eat and great nightlife.
If you're going to the Jimmy Buffet concert, you can always grab dinner before hand at Mojos, Ceviche, or Draft all of which are right near the Amway Center. Afterwards, there are plenty of bars around to hang out at and continue the night.

I was surprised too, especially when I finally got a message from my friend who lives outside Orlando - she suggested Downtown Orlando strongly over Downtown Disney. Of course, she also knows my strong aversion to children and anything overly touristy, so that was probably why.
