Bombay Company?

Has anyone heard of this, specifically for home accents/small furniture?

I'm looking at a jewelry armoire on craigslist that I want to buy with my birthday money from my parents. She won't take less than $150 for it.  She keeps saying its Bombay Company and they're not around anymore.  I have never heard of Bombay Company, so that means absolutely nothing to me.  I googled and found a Canadian based company, but I also found a company that sells small decor items on QVC.  I'm kinda lost.

Is anyone familiar?  Any guidance as to whether I'm getting a good price?

Re: Bombay Company?

  • They used to have them in CA, really funky furniture.  I remember it being good stuff but have no idea if the arimore is worth it.  They had some cool jewlery armoires on QVC last week.

I didn't see any armoires on the website!  Do you remember how much they were (ballpark)?

  • There used to be a Bombay in the mall.  It was a lot like pier 1 to me.  I just looked on ebay and they had a few.

  • I thought they went bankrupt.  They closed down all of the ones around here.

I have a wine cabinet from Bombay that I bought in 2005 and it has held up really well and was a reasonable price at the time.

I equate it with a World Market/Pier 1/Kirklands.  They used to have a good selection end tables.

ETA: Sorry, didn't read OP close enough.  $150 sounds kind of high to me for a used piece from Bombay.

  • This website has closeout items from Bombay.  New, a large jewelry armoire/vanity is $150.

(They also have my wine cabinet for $150.)

That's what I was thinking.  But I really want it, plus I don't have to pay shipping.

Decisions, decisions....seriously though, this is my biggest Craigslist pet peeve.  The point, to me, is to get rid of stuff and maybe get a little pocket money.  So many people think their used crap is worth more than it is.

  • I looked again and I was seeing jewelry boxes, sorry.  Cost plus has some that aren't too expensive.  I think it's still a little too high.
  • My husband use to work there, they had a store in one of our local malls back when we started dating in 1998 they went out of business. There furniture is really nice and lasts. My husband has had his furniture for over 14 yrs, and he passed it onto his mom after he got new furniture and she still has it. Its a shame they went out of business because they had nice furniture.
