Hello. We are in the process of buying our first home and had the home inspection last week. Both of us were there so we could learn about the home and hear what the inspector had to say. Everything came back great, which we expected since the home is only 4 years old. But, today the radon tests came back high. We want to ask the seller to get the radon mitigated or give us a credit at closing to do it ourselves. Did anyone have to ask for things like this after the home inspection and what were the sellers responces?
I am nervous because we have already compromised with the seller on the price and agreed to pay all closing costs because they can't afford them. I really don't want to have to pay for radon mitigation before moving in as well.
Re: Home Inspection
You can ask, but based on your OP, I wouldn't be surprised if they say no. It isn't so significant a cost that I would walk away if I really liked the house.

my husband and I are in the process of buying our first home, we had our home inspection this past weekend. There ended up being a water problem in the basement and we had to figure out how much it would be.
When the estimate came back It was about 8k worth of improvements; we brought it back to the sellers and we have come to a negotiation. Even so, this is a very stressful time. We ended up getting a FHA credit, with that the money that we receive back is spread out at closing and settlement.
We didn't have a radon problem, however, if we did then we would of defiantly went back to the seller. It is their problem to fix until you are the owner. Anything is better to negotiate prior to settlement, we have been told once it is "yours" all problems come with it.
I hope this helps...I know it is wicked stressful!! best of luck!
