Has anyone used any product in the UK that help with gas relief for baby that they would recommend? I feel so bad for baby gril. She seems like she is straining to pass gas and cries every time, stretches out her body, and goes white in the forehead. She's not constipated and I've tried being careful about what I'm eating. I don't know what to do for her. She seems to have had gas constantly from just a few days old.
Re: @ baby gas relief
No, I haven't tried it but I will now. It's so bad that she wakes herself up from her sleep, or sometimes half wakes up let's out a little cry and goes back to sleep. Between this, all the spit up, and how often she gets the hiccups I feel for her. She also makes the most heart breaking "help me" face when she has the hiccups. Poor kid.
Have you tried Gripe Water? I used it on James and my Mom used it us as babies.

Edit - We also tried Infacol - http://www.boots.com/en/Infacol-50ml_1820/
Have you had her seen about the reflux? I would work on tummy massage especially in a warm bath, and bicycling her legs. I never found gripe water at all effective. It also could be helpful to keep a food diary just to see what her triggers are. For refluxy babies it's commonly caffeine, chocolate, acidic foods that would cause heartburn in an adult like tomato sauce. Leafy green veggies can be hard on them, some kids don't tolerate garlic very well. It's kind of a trial and error thing. But honestly, my kids gas got better when his reflux was under control finally. N idea how the two were related but they did seem to be. Good luck!
Ps. Dnt let them give you infant gaviscon, it's crap. . Push for ranitidine or losec, or a consult with a pediatrician if your GP isn't helpful.
Chronically hilarious - you'll split your stitches!
I wrote a book! Bucket list CHECK!

They did ask us about reflux signs when we were in A&E with her, but she hasn't shown any of them that mentioned: arching her back after/during feeding, not wanting to eat, getting upset when eating. I'm waiting for a referral from the pediatrician to come through from when she wasn't opening her bowels, and now that seems to be sorted but I'm going to go see them anyway so I'll ask again.
We do tummy massage and bicycling her legs and they calm her a bit. I think I need to do some more tummy time though.
N had gas issues when she was younger too. We know it was colic and not reflux as she had the classic colic symptoms (screaming for 2 hours in the evening, in pain... but fed no problem). N was a formula baby...
We tried the following:
Infacol: Fail. Just didn't seem to make any difference at all...
Colief: Marginally better, but a pain to administer - we had to make up the bottles either 2 hours in advance with hot water or 4 hours in advance with cool water and leave in the fridge. It said it broke down the lactose in the milk which can cause the gas issues.
The "baby dance": I know this sounds odd but not the official name for it! Basically, winding N was really hard at times. So we sat her on our knee, one hand at the front supporting her and her head, the other hand holding her back. Now, gently move her upper body in a clockwise position a couple of times. Follow this by a couple of times anti-clockwise. Gently. And supporting her head. It helps break down the gas pockets in her tummy. The nurses in the Special Care Unit showed us this and they do it all the time.
Baby massage: This certainly did help!! As others have mentioned, doing bicycle legs is the easiest to describe. Also, the Sun & Moon: rub her tummy in a clockwise movement (near full circle with the right hand, half circle with the left hand) 6 times. Waterfall: downward movement on the tummy with both hands. If you can manage it (can be tricky) hold her legs in (like if she was crouching) and do the waterfall with the free hand. I don't know about in the UK but baby massage courses here are only ?120 for 4 weeks of classes and can be claimed against some private health policies... I really found it helpful!
The biggest help to us though was changing her formula to a comfort formula rather than regular formula... like a new baby overnight nearly... Though I realise this is not going to be something for you to consider...
As Tofu said, make sure you wind her really well after each feed. The baby dance above really helped us with that. It will pass and in the meantime just give her as many cuddles as possible and talk to your dh because you will both be stressed out by this and there is no point in arguing over it...
Frequent hiccups and the spit up would be enough of a sign for me to want to at least discuss with the pedi. Hiccups, or rather frequent wet andbuncomfortable ones, are a major symptom.
