QOTD

Do you have a "omg, it's such a small world story"?

Yeah, I was on my friends FB page and I saw another friend on her page(a mom from The Little Gym, who I am friends with) at first I thought I was on the wrong page, so I refreshed and she was still there, lol. So I asked and here they go to the same church in the city. I just found it so odd at first because the Mom from TLG just moved her from FL.

Re: QOTD

  • A few:

    1) Before DH and I were dating, we were just good friends through work, and he lived in Maryland and I lived in Massachusetts.  One weekend, I was visiting friends and family in Maryland, and I ended up making plans with him (and his wife-at-the-time) for dinner one of the nights I'd be in town.  I sent an e-mail to everyone I was spending time with: My cousin and his wife, my good friends (whom I was staying with) from Massachusetts whom had recently moved back to Maryland, and Robert, letting them know my total agenda.   My friend who had moved from Massachusetts to Maryland saw Robert's name and asked if he was the same Bobby (lastname) that he grew up with.  Yup. It was.  They were BFF's all through elementary school, and then one moved away.  Ironically, (a) they both lived in Boston for the same period of many years (b) were both working for the same company at the time and (c) had both moved back to Maryland within a month of each other and lived less than 2 miles away from each other. Crazy!

    2) The summer before my sophomore year at college, I worked at a university bookstore where my mother also worked. I ended up meeting this guy, a grad student, and we'd flirt quite a bit whenever he was in the store. Nice guy, very cute. One day, my mother was out on the store floor near me when the guy came in. My mom was all happy to see him, gave him a big hug.  Then she said to me, "Oh, Kathy, Let me introduce you to Billy.   I don't know that you two have seen each other since you were very little. This is your cousin, Leo's son."   Um, excuse me. I just threw up in my mouth.

  • I have a new boss as of Jan 3rd. In chatting with him, I found out that his daughter's name is Bridgid Alyce (our's is spelled Bridget Elise). A couple days later, we also discovered that I had polygraphed Bridgid a couple years ago. Maybe this is more "what a coincidence!" than a "what a small world!" but it's all I can think of right now.

  • It's not my story, actually my bff Mandy's.

She and her DH grew up a few towns apart. When she was in 6th grade and he was in 7th, they both attended a church youth camp, but with different churches and they didn't interact at all, during the same week. At the end of the week, they took a picture of all the kids who were there. She's standing next to him in the picture.

They didn't actually "meet" until 3 years later when she started high school and their lockers were across the hall. They just celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.

  • Well DH and I have discussed that there were 2 possible times that we were in the same area, but never ran into each other.  Once was when he was an ECU cop in NC and I was a senior in high school (since we're 9 years apart) and we were actually touring the ECU campus with my mom's friend and seeing the damage from Hurricane Floyd and I was dropping of my girl scout gold award project which was to collect books for the libraries down there.

Then we also realized that we hung out at the same bar when I was a senior in college and he had moved back into town and was doing his work training.

Recently I was at a sorority alum meeting and talking to a woman and realized her son is best friends with a good guy friend from college.

  • This is probably one of my all time favorite stories:

Backstory: when my parents got divorced, my father took our living room furniture, and my mom couldn't afford to replace it right away so she saved and saved and finally bought really nice living room furniture. When she was dying, she told my aunt things she wanted out of the house (since my father would be moving back in after she died) of course the furniture was on the list.  She even said to go so far as to burn it so he wouldn't have it.  Anyways, we gave it to her boyfriend at the time, along with a dryer.  This was 1990.

Fast forward to 2003: I  started teaching at the school where my mom's boyfriend had worked.  I became very good friends with this woman named Susan.  I would often do my laundry at her house. One day as I was doing laundry she was telling me that her dryer had been Jack's (my mom's boyfriend.) I told her that if it had been Jack's then it had been mine since we gave him our dryer.  I went on to tell her how my mom wanted stuff given away and told her about the furniture, what it looked like, etc.  She went outside for a second to talk to her dad and came back in and said "I'm going to tell you something, and I don't want you to get upset" She went on to tell me she thought my mom's furniture was in the basement.  So we went down to look, and sure enough it was.  My mom's prized possession wound up back in my life!

It was in really bad shape and was soooo ugly (think 1980s big peach flowers) so I just took the ottoman.  As a wedding gift, Pat took the ottoman and had a table made from the wood.  So now I have "my mom's furniture" in my house.  I know she is happy about it.
