can you put beer in checked luggage?

anyone try this? we are on a southwest flight next week and bags are free. curious if we can bring some local beers back and forth.

We've done it with wine in the past, so I don't see why you couldn't. Just be careful to wrap them--it would suck if they busted open!

Yes. Only concern is glass. The hubz brought Belgian beer and luckily had his wet suit to use for padding :-)

Bottles. He wraps socks or underwear around the neck of the bottle, then wraps the whole thing in a t-shirt. He then packs other things tightly around and on top of/below it, and makes sure it's in the middle of the suitcase as well.

He's also an international pint glass thief as well and uses the same method, just stuffs the socks or underwear into the glass.

Yes! Just pack carefully. We generally put bottles in ziplock bags or wrap them in garbage bags and also make sure there isn't anything that would be ruined by beer in the suitcase.

this is how I've done it: wrap it plastic bags (such as grocery store bags), then wrap in bubble wrap, then wrap in some heavy clothing.

we might go for cans to avoid breakage issue but i was worried about them exploding in the cargo area.

DH and I have brought back opened bottles of alcohol with no problems. When we go on vacation we usually get "bottle service" and anything that's opened is ours to keep. (it's always company trips so we don't pay for the service ourselves).

We wrap bottles in bubble wrap and dark-colored clothes (so there's less of a disaster in case of spillage). We've never had a problem.

fyi: whole foods on P street often has 312 and other goose island beers pretty regularly

good to know! i am sure there are some "versions"of 312 we can't get here though. but that is good beer intel.

we have used Depends for liquor bottles on our international trips and have had no problems.
