Need cheap weekend getaway ideas . . . nearby
another couple and DH and I are trying to think of an inexpensive getaway since we both have anniversaries coming up (but both have taxes coming up too!)
DH hates Chicago, so that's out.
DH and I are foodies but the other couple isn't really into wine.
Help!
Re: Need cheap weekend getaway ideas . . . nearby
See MB"s Groupon post below?
That place looks nice.
Blashpemy, BTW.
I know! Not sure why, maybe he has an ex girlfriend from there LOL.
hmm, that's an idea.
Now that I think of it... it might be closer to a 4.5 hour drive. Maybe too much for only 2 days, but if you make it a 3 day weekend, so worth the drive.
There are some really great local restaurants, but I am not sure about the food source for them. I just know they are locally owned and the food is fantastic. Brady street is a great place to spend some time. Good restaurants, bars and coffee/tea houses. The Third Ward has art galleries, theatres and restaurants.
If you are interested in any recommendations, let me know.
If you are doing a 3-4 day weekend there is a groupon deal for Lake Geneva.
Your friends that aren't in to wine, do they not even drink it? Would they be willing to sample wines? Could you find enough to do in Traverse City with them?
Petoskey. If we could get some snow on the ground, they have a cool winter park.
Detroit area - You could do a mix of shopping, eating and musuems. The Henery Ford is a pretty cool place.
The Shack
As in, the love shack, baby?
Last time my family stayed at The Shack (20 years ago...) they loved it
Robinson Lake is always really pretty.
For foodie culture, I would definitely go to Detroit. Lots of great restaurants and a few local breweries if they prefer beer to wine. If you decide on the D, I can give you some specific restaurant recommendations.
I would highly recommend staying at a downtown hotel.
Funny thing, DH actually proposed to me at The Shack.
Loving all the great ideas - will run it by them to see what the budget looks like.
even funnier, it's in Juggville!
