Sigh - at least I know..

Well I've figured out: what I thought might be acid reflux or severe heartburn, turns out I've had a gall bladder attack 3 times in the last 1 1/2 - 2 months. Sad

  • I am really sorry you both have to go through that. Gallbladder pain is awful. :(

Laura - if you do need surgery don't worry. It isn't too bad and the recovery is pretty quick.

  • That sucks!  If you do have to have it removed and you still have your appendix I would ask your doc if they will be taking that too.  With some insurance policy's if they go in to take out your gallbladder and don't take out your appendix, they won't pay if you need your appendix out later.  Does that make sense?

So they assume that you should know you'll need your appendix out in the future? how ridiculous!

I'm so sorry you're going through this, Alise

Not exactly.  Since you don't need your appendix they like them to come out if you have to have another abdominal surgery anyway.  It prevents having to have another surgery with comes with all of the risks later on.  Personally, I like the rule because I don't enjoy being put under, but it doesn't effect me because my appendix burst in 2003 and had to have surgery anyway.

  • Wow.  Just another example of American health care I suppose, but that seems crazy to me that they would take out an organ for no reason just to prevent having to pay for another surgery later.

I hope both of you Alise and Laura, end up being ok and don't need surgery!

It's not just for the cost of it.  There are a lot of risks with any surgery.  If I was in that situation I would want them to take it while they were there so I wouldn't have to deal with pain later.

  • I can sympathize. I have all the symptoms (since I was pregnant), but every test is coming back negative -- wich is even more frustrating. I have another appointment next week.

Oh no Maria, I didn't know that.. definitely crappy when you have all the symptoms but it doesn't show on tests!
