I've read the books, and I was able to see the first episode of it this week since we got a weekend of HBO free so I recorded it.
I've only got one question: why wasn't Jaime wearing his Kingsguard uniform? Are they ignoring that whole story line? I was looking forward to seeing him in his whites.

I don't know how they could discount it when it's mentioned so often in the books. The fact that he guards the king wasn't even mentioned in the first episode--makes you kind of wonder why (as a pretext) Jaime came along in the first place if you didn't read the books.
I want HBO too!!!
I don't remember what he was wearing in the first episode, but the Kingsguard uniform isn't exactly white in the show. See:
