Clicky poll - MLive's redesign

Shockingly, not everyone agrees with me.  Smile

Just curious...

[Poll]

Re: Clicky poll - MLive's redesign

  • Dude, how can you do a poll without an "other" option?  Because that's what I'd take.

The old front page design was so busy that I stopped going there.  I haven't spent much time on Mlive today, but visually, it's more calm.  Though... I can't stop thinking of butter.

I am fascinated by this!  Because the new design makes me feel axious.

I guess that goes off on a whole different issue.  What makes a site design "calm"?

Bright colors, bold fonts but uncluttered content?

Or cluttered content with neutral colors?

  • So, if it was a more neutral color, do you think you'd like the layout better?

I wonder how much of the design was impacted by the hope of selling more subscriptions for rights to the online version?  I'm not saying "let's make it yellow, and more people will pay us for a different viewing."  But I wonder how much that was considered at all.

  • I think it's actually more of the size of everything that's really bothering me.  If the yellow header was smaller, it would be okay.  But it takes up half the page.  And the article titles seem overwhelmingly huge and bold to me too.
  • Yellow journalism.

I haven't really had a chance to dig into it yet (new job), but someone on Twitter mentioned this unfortunate connection and now it's all I can think about.

Oh, and Kasa's right - the top banner is WAAAAAAAYYY too big.

    Baaahhhaa!

Kasa, I saw your FB page and opened mlive and yelled out (at work) "eek!" and did a little twitch.  Looking at the site gives me twitches.   The font size is horrible.  The first time I looked at it, I believe two of the top stories were national stories and not current news stories.  I feel like it is a cheap, generic website for a local small town newspaper who could only afford a website software program.
