Katie, Nikki, Colleen

How are the one month olds doing? How are you all adjusting to life with LO?

Both girls are taking a nap at the same time so I have a minute to relax. I was wondering how you ladies and babies are doing.

Re: Katie, Nikki, Colleen

  • I can't believe Austin will be one month old tomorrow!

He's doing well. He gets up once in the middle of the night which is really nice.

I'm still having trouble breastfeeding. I've been EPing since I pulled him off the breast to let my nipples heal a few weeks ago. I'm scared to try him again because of the latch problems I had right from the start.

I reached out to the hospital LC today and got nowhere. I think she's basically kicked me to the curb since I'm not in the care of the hospital anymore, which is really dissapointing.

I went to our church's mom group this morning and one of the ladies at my table is a LLL leader so I sent her a FB message today to see if she can offer any assistance.

Life with Austin has been great. We are settling into a routine and he is such a joy to have.

But ya know how they say the first year of marriage is the hardest? That was a cakewalk. I'm thinking the first year after having a baby is going to be the hardest for sure. It's not that we are fighting, but it's hard to be home with the baby all day and then DH comes home and sits with the baby while I cook and clean up the house. I really wish he would help more. I'm sure you all can relate... DHs just don't get how taxing it is to be home with an infant all day. It's WORK for sure!

I'm healing well, although I'm dreading the six week mark (i.e. the 'ok' to have sex). Things are definitely still tender down there. I'm also pleasantly surprised that I haven't had issues with PPD. With my history of anxiety, I was kinda expecting to have some PPD so I've tried to be very aware of my feelings and I think everything is going well so far.

Can't wait to hear how you all are doing!

  • Ditto Katie, I can't believe how this month has flown by!!

We are doing good. BFing is going well, it was rough for a while. She was not gaining much in the beginning, but was up 6oz in a week last week! Still trying to get my supply up so I can start getting a little stash started.

DH and I have had our moments, it's definitely hard. I feel like we have no time together as "us". I just keep telling myself that it will get easier.

Getting out of the house more now. Not much of a routine going other than following her lead. Hope the rest of you guys are doing well!

  • Katie, hopefully the LLL can give you some help. I remember the pain the first time having sex after tearing with Alex. It got better after a couple times. Go Austin, one wake up is fantastic! If you can, take some time to just yourself and leave Austin with your H for a while (I'm guessing you could since you are pumping). Hopefully it will help him realize how much energy a baby takes out of you.

Colleen, I'm happy to hear how well everything is going. It is such an adjustment when baby is thrown into the mix. Hopefully you and your H will come to a new normal and get some couple time alone soon.

Nikki, I'm sorry things are rough and heading closer to the Kodi issues. If it is gas, there is a store around here where a woman makes a rice pack wrap for babies. It's a bag of rice that you can throw in the microwave to heat it up, then put it into the wrap and it goes around baby. Not sure if something like that would help, but I know you're a wiz wtih a sewing machine, so I wanted to put it out there. It was advised to me as a help with possible gas issues for Cori.

Cori has been so easy compared to Alex so far. She still has witching hours, but I know it will pass. She is a peanut though. Today I packed away her newborn size clothes, and she could probably still wear the onsies for a bit longer, but I'm sick of the few options. I tried putting a 0-3 outfit on her over the weekend, but the pants looked like a hoolahoop around her waist, so sleepers it is for a while still.

She has witching hour from 5 to 6:30 then sleeps for 5 hours. After that it's 2-3 hour blocks until morning. Monday though, she woke up at 10AM from her morning nap and didn't sleep again until 7PM. Alex decided not to nap that day either, so by the time H came home, I was at the end of my rope.

I got my first real smiles today. She was just smiling at me while I was talking to her for a few minutes. It was great. She rolled over having a fit at 9 days. I figured it was a fluke, but she's done it at least once a day since then. There isn't an opening in the infant room until sometime in March, so I get a few extra weeks off. Too bad I'm not getting paid. Also, H's deployment was called off. Great news, but a bummer that my employment plans won't be changing.
