s/o the cute story...a not-so-cute story!

When I was 14 or 15 my parents got a computer and I would get on AIM (back when it was soooo cool!) after they were asleep and talk to my friends. There was a boy in my class who I liked and I found out his screenname somehow and sent him a flirty message one night. It turns out that I had spelled the name wrong, so I sent the message to some random dude in Texas. We kept chatting...for like 2 years. He was my super secret cyber-sexer.  Eventually I even called him (I was smart enough not to give him my number) and he wanted to have phone sex and I got weirded out and never talked to him again. So, uh, moral of the story is that teenage girls are stupid and the internet is evil and will corrupt your daughters, y'all!

  • haha, it is true.

I was cyber corrupted around that age and my parents caught on a bit too late.   It's kind of scary how trusting teens can be, I feel so stupid about some of the things I did back then and wouldn't dare do now with how easily information can be found these days!

  • I may or may not have had random friends on AIM for years...

  • oops! Indifferent

What's more concerning is that so many of us have similar stories.

  • I have a teenage girl in my house, so these stories are not helping!

It's really hard, you try to warn them that the boy they *think* they're talking to could be some 60 year old serial killer in his underwear, but of course they think they know it all and that they would be absolutely so smart to never let that happen to them.  Damn kids, the internet can be very, very evil at times.

  • I met a guy on MIRC like 15 years ago. We internet chatted for a while and met up at Perkins one night. He was weird and quite religious... I am not (religious that is, I'm plenty weird). I never saw him again.

Fast forward like 10 years and this guy on POF instant messages me. We chatted a bit and he wanted to meet me?! I was telling him the story how I met someone once when I was young and he turned out to be bizarre and a religious freak and I would be taking things slow with anyone I planned to meet. We chatted a bit more and he asked me about this guy I met. I mentioned where we met, that it was during a snow storm and that he wouldn't stop talking about his car, a red ford probe. He asked me if the guy's name was "so and so" and turns out I had been talking to my awful first ever meet up. I sat not typing for a bit and just put.. "Sorry for the religious freak comment" and closed the chat window. I didn't do live chat after that.

well that's super strange!!  I am sure you were both weirded out about that one!

I was big into mIRC, too!   I loved those little chat rooms and would be on there for hours sometimes.    I definitely saw my first peen from a pic sent from some creeper on there before I even saw one IRL, without even asking for a pic like that.
