moving to south jersey

what can you tell me about south jersey? I am moving there in a few months and I have 3 kids under 4. I will be somewhere near Cherry Hill and want to rent something until we decide where we want to be. My oldest is in pre-k right now, so I need to rent somewhere witih good schools. Any thoughts?

Pretty much any area around Cherry Hill is going to have good schools. Cherry Hill itself is great, Marlton, Medford, Voorhees, Haddonfield, Moorestown, all good places to look.

I agree with Queenie. Those locations are all located along major highways (295, 70, 73) so you'll have plenty of shopping and amenities located close by. The price for rent and homes is going to be more expensive than somewhere a little further out.

There's a lot to do with the kids, the state aquarium, the Philadelphia zoo, the historical section of Philadelphia, the boardwalks down the shore.

Hi, I can tell you South Jersey is what you make of it. We moved here a little over a year ago, and we got out and about, saw things, went and found the beaches we liked, restaurants, and jobs. I have just a few friends cause its hard to make friends when you are new. But, now I have my own business and a good support system, my kids go to a great school(in Medford) although it is pricey to live where we do,and some of the people are snotty, the schools and neighborhood is worth it. My best advice, is call real estate agents and have them show you listings for rentals, we looked at over 70 houses before we found ours! and we rent too!! look at familywatchdog.com and check out greatschools.org for schools in the areas you are renting. Parts of Cherry Hill blend into camden, so be careful, also, Medford, Marlton, Voorhees, Berlin, these can be pricey areas, but worth it for schools and safety.Whatever they charge for rent, you can counter offer, especially in this economy and they check credit scores, so the better score, the better bargaining power you have! Our rent was listed at $1900/month and we now pay less than $1700, just by asking..so heads up, you have some power here. I wish someone had told me what to do when I moved here!!! Good Luck.

BTW - South Jersey is NOTHING like the "Jersey" you see on TV. All that Snookie crap, etc. is mostly North Jersey and toward NYC. South Jersey has a lot of open space and is a great place to live!

Ahem, as a transplant from North Jersey , I can tell you that North Jersey is also nothing like what you see on Jersey Shore!!!
