Mirena

I just recently got Mirena. Does anyone else have it? How do you feel about it? Does it help or kill your sex drive? Its my 3rd day with it and it still feels weird to me.

He stole my heart, so I'm stealing his last name.

Re: Mirena

  • I have had it for about 4 months now and love it. I bled for a few weeks when I first got it and haven't bled since. It kills my sex drive though, but that could be from the baby and being tired too. I don't notice it now though.

  • Surprisingly, I haven't had a kid yet and I am 18 years old. I am still bleeding (3 days off) and I still cramp. I feel drained and it feels similar to being on my period. I don't know if that is how it was for you. Kind of concerns me actually. Glad I am not the only one.

  • I have no kids and just got it 2 months ago. I love it! I cramped a few days and spotted for about 7 weeks. I still spot a little but barely enough to use a pantyliner. It definitely felt weird to not take BCPs anymore.

What do you mean by "feels weird" though? You shouldn't be able to feel Mirena at all.

I started it because I was sick of BCPs--THEY killed my sex drive! I haven't noticed an increase in it yet, but I was also on BCPs for 8 years solid, so it can take awhile for those hormones to get out of your system.

Overall I'm happy with it. I also have cervical ectropian (bleedy cervical cells that can be caused by BCPs) and that seems to have gone away with the IUD, so bonus points.
