A Foodie Friday Five

We are in a rut in the restaurants we go to, so I thought it would be nice if we did something like this for some new ideas.

1.  Your favorite Mexican food restaurant.

2.  Your favorite pizza place.

3.  Your favorite Italian restaurant.

4.  Your favorite "nice" restaurant (you know, where you go for special occasions).

5.  Your favorite meal that you make at home.

Re: A Foodie Friday Five

  • Even though I have been here for a year most of my initial answers to these would be from Nebraska, so I dont have many but I will list Matts.

     1.  Your favorite Mexican food restaurant. I dont have one but Matt loves Los Lupes

    2.  Your favorite pizza place. Ralphs pizza, its right by our apartment, cheap, and NY style which we both like.

    3.  Your favorite Italian restaurant. I havent found one here yet, but Matt likes Napolis and some place in Canton

    4.  Your favorite "nice" restaurant (you know, where you go for special occasions). Dont have one here yet.

    5.  Your favorite meal that you make at home.   I love beef bourguignon, but it take forever.  Salsa chicken and chili are probably my next faves.

  • 1.  Your favorite Mexican food restaurant.

Right now, if we eat Mexican, we eat Blue Goose in Highland Village.  I love their nachos, their buffalo chicken quesadilla, and their blackened fish tacos.

    2.  Your favorite pizza place.

We tried Grimaldi's several months ago and it was delicious.  However, 75 and Park Ln. are a long ways to drive.  Sometimes, I order iFratelli's for lunch (they have a pizza only restaurant in Grapevine).  We also like Palio's and Pazzo's (which is in Flower Mound).

    3.  Your favorite Italian restaurant.

We have three favorites here:  Maggiano's, Campisi's, and Mi Piaci.  Mi Piaci is in Addison and it's more authentic Italian than the other two and it's delicious.

    4.  Your favorite "nice" restaurant (you know, where you go for special occasions).

About a year ago, we ate at the Old Hickory at the Gaylord and it was delicious and we had a wonderful time.

    5.  Your favorite meal that you make at home.

When I make my goulash casserole (ground meat, elbow macaroni, ketchup, mustard and topped with cheddar), Bill eats about half at a time.  It's always one of my favorite meals.

    Bobbileigh,

I've been to the Napoli's in Mesquite (it's called Eddie's Napoli's there) but I think it's part of that chain of Napoli's that Matt likes.  It's pretty good.

And I love beef bourguignon too but I've never tried my hand at making it.  Do you have a recipe you like more than others?

  • ooo I forgot about Fuzzy's I die for their chicken quesadillas and fish tacos.

Julie, I will have to try the italian places you listed, especially the one in addison since its close.

I follow Julia Childs recipe minus the pearl onion part (they are a pain), I just use reg onions chopped up coursly and its fine. This recipe is so rich and comforting.

I have only been to Fuzzy's once and I liked it.  I still like Costa Vida better for a quick Mexican fix though.

We have so many cookbooks already that I hate to buy another one, but the Julia Childs' one may be a must own.

And, I know I'm writing about them out of order, but Mi Piaci is on Montfort just south of Beltline.  We went there for our first Valentine's Day, we took his parents there and he proposed there.  It's pretty special.  Try to get a table close to the windows.

    I just googled the recipe.

  • 1.  Your favorite Mexican food restaurant.

Joe T's, Matt's (although they are moving and closing for 2 months), and one that is close by Fernando's.  They have a Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas.  DH and I will walk the 1.5 miles there with the dog.  Sit on the Patio, have brunch and drink mimosas for a few hours.  Then walk home.  Great start to a day!

    2.  Your favorite pizza place.

    Fireside Pies.  Yum!

    3.  Your favorite Italian restaurant.

    Terelli's or Penne Pomodoro

    4.  Your favorite "nice" restaurant (you know, where you go for special occasions).

Hrm, DH and I usually try a different one almost every time we do a fancy restaurant, and they are all good.  But we have been back to Hibiscus a few times and that is always excellent!

    5.  Your favorite meal that you make at home.

DH stuffs a chicken breast with spinach, basil, and feta cheese then grills it.  That with some broccoli & cauliflower that has been brushed with olive oil and basalmic vinegar and grilled.  Ahh, best meal ever.

  • 1.  Your favorite Mexican food restaurant.

Blue Mesa. We normally steer away from chains when we can help it, but daaaaang that's good queso.

    2.  Your favorite pizza place.

    Cavalli

    3.  Your favorite Italian restaurant.

Hard... maybe Buca di Bepo? Everything I'm thinking of is SoCal, which is not really helpful here.

    4.  Your favorite "nice" restaurant (you know, where you go for special occasions).

It's not really "nice", but we take new people every chance we get... Lili's Bistro on Magnolia in Fort Worth. It's probably just my favorite restaurant. PERIOD.

    5.  Your favorite meal that you make at home.

I don't do the cooking, Mack does. But he makes this sun dried chicken tomato alfredo that is simply divine. We actually blogged the recipe not too long ago if anyone's interested.

  • 1.  Your favorite Mexican food restaurant.    Cafe Veracruz in Bishop Arts District. Fantastic ambiance, great prices and seriously awesome food. 2.  Your favorite pizza place.  Would you believe that we have had ZERO pizza since we moved here?!?!?! So I'll be reading everyone else's recommendations. 3.  Your favorite Italian restaurant.  We like Patrizio's in Highland/University Park. 4.  Your favorite "nice" restaurant (you know, where you go for special occasions).  Well, we don't have that many special occasions (Sad!) but for a nice date night, we like Mercy. It's a Wine/Tapas bar in Addison. Very chic and the wine list is impressive. 5.  Your favorite meal that you make at home.  I don't really cook much, that's DH territory. But our "WooHoo! We Love Food!!!" nights are typically homemade chicken pot pies, or we make ravioli.

  • 1.  Your favorite Mexican food restaurant.  Honestly, for me, it's probably the downtown El Fenix.  Ben loves Herrera's but I don't.  We usually end up at Mi Cocina.  I love Matt's but we are never over there.

    2.  Your favorite pizza place.  Grimaldi's West Village.

    3.  Your favorite Italian restaurant.  It used to be Daniele Osteria but sadly, it's gone.  We need to find a new one.  Ben isn't big on italian though.

    4.  Your favorite "nice" restaurant (you know, where you go for special occasions).

Probably Pappas Bros. Steakhouse.  It's our go-to special occasion place and we always, always have a wonderful meal and a great time.  It also holds the record for the most we've ever spent on a meal.

    5.  Your favorite meal that you make at home.   I always love taco night!

I actually pinned a recipe very similar to this last night.  I can't wait to make it!  I love finding new chicken recipes.

LOL.  Bill loves taco night too.  I actually bought a taco starter sauce from William-Sonoma and we haven't tried it yet.  Hmmm, maybe this week.  Have you tried any of the chicken taco recipes from Pinterest?  Some of them look a little too chunky for me but I think we'll try a few anyways.

  • Hee, Julie my gourmet tacos consist of ground meat and the Old El Paso Stand and Stuff taco dinner kit.  But add some sour cream and fresh tomatoes and it's delish.  I always make Mexican Rice a Roni with it.

I love fajita night too and I get a little fancier with those.

We don't do fajitas but I will buy meat from the Central Market deli for quesadilla night.  They have two great seasoned chickens in their case on a fairly regular basis:  chipotle lime and orange honey habenero.  So good.....

  • *sigh* I wish we had a Central Market anywhere close to us.  I have Whole Foods by work which is OK, but that means I have to go during the week.

We try to go once a month to the one in Southlake.  We buy meat for the most part.  And tortillas.  I also love Whole Foods and I wish there was one near us too.  However, I would settle for a Market Street.
