looking at the wikipedia list, i will have to say it's "salted pork fat" hahahahah. it's a very very very very fatty piece of pork. i usually pick off the fat, and eat the pork. but the the "purpose" of using something so fatty, is to have the oil drip out into the rice. yummmmmm.
historically chinese people just love eating fat...it shows wealth

This sounds delish. And if it makes me wealthy, I'd eat it!
Me too! And a big ol' cup of coffee as I sit at my desk getting motivated for the day.
haha it doesn't "make" you wealthy.. it's just historically, foods that were high in fat were hard to come by, so only if you were wealthy you could afford fatty foods (unlike these days were mcd's is the cheapest thing out there!). so if you eat foods that are high in fat, or are fat, then people can assume you are wealthy.

An apple. I meant to bring in yogurt and some string cheese but I forgot. And then I bit into my first apple and realized I had picked a gross apple that someone had left at my house when we invited them over for breakfast (they decided to make breakfast smoothies) and it was mealy and nasty.
So now I only have one apple for the day. ;-;
