SGK to reverse PP decision?
Anyone heard this? just saw in on my twitter feed

Re: SGK to reverse PP decision?
Looks like it.
I actually can't believe how worked up I got over this issue this week. I used PP so many times for bc and exams when I was younger. It really chapped my asss.
I still have a lot of issues with SGK - and esp their board - but they made the right decision.
I also feel like this is a great example of people using the internet and social media successfully to protest. I was watching (and posting on) their fb wall and couldn't believe the # of people posting in protest. They were working overtime to delete all the negative posts and they couldn't even keep up.
ahhhh... tooo many acronyms!
Susan G. Komen and Planned Parenthood??
tho, I do want to add that I will be giving Komen the side eye (and none of my money) until I see that the staff who have political agendas and not women's health front of mind no longer work there.
/soapbox
This. Did you see that PP received more than $1 million in donations this week in response to SGK? The annual grant from SGK is just over $680,000, so the supporters of PP really gave the organization a boost.
Also, not sure if anyone was aware of a recent PR problem the American Cancer Society faced when a member of the ACS staff posted a blog entry on the ACS official site that was related to the bald Barbie and stated (I'm completely paraphrasing) that childhood cancer is rare and that is why a smaller percentage of ACS dollars goes to childhood cancer research.
ACS's FB wall was filled with parents and supporters of families with childhood cancer patients asking for the resignation of the writer, along with greater funding for childhood cancer research. I think part of the problem was that ACS started to delete posts from writers that expressed their clear, coherent emotions and dissatisfaction with the blog post.
It got some press on ABC News, but not nearly as much as the PP/SGK story. I think more folks were focused on the bald Barbie, rather than the statements of an employee of ACS. Some of the comments at this story are interesting. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2012/01/18/american-cancer-society-blogger-apologizes-for-bald-barbie-flub/
This sealed the fate of my interest in donating any support to sjk. There are plenty of other cancer organizations who have better leadership.
We will continue to donate to pp though. And I always donate gf. Because it is more then cancer screenings. I want to give to women who need safe abortions, morning after and birth control too.
hahaha this is like the opposite messaging.
eh i know, i'm a jerk. just saying i think pp does LOTS of good things for women and we as individual donors can support where government and corps cannot. .
I made a donation to PP yesterday specifically to the breast cancer fund even though I support all of PP's programs. I did this b/c I felt like I was trying to replace some of the $$ that had been taken away.
Also, this whole thing irritates the shits out of me. I'm so tired of ideology and politics getting in the way of science and women's health. I could seriously go punch someone in the face over this.
