My Fitness Pal - what is it?
I see some of you with tickers - what is it?
Re: My Fitness Pal - what is it?
MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter
Does it figure out how much you 'should' eat and how much you burn based on your height/weight and stuff?
May check it out.
My thing is packaged food is so easy to figure out calories, it's the prepared stuff that's hard.
MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter
OK so it's basically Weight Watchers, just no points. Weight Watchers lets you track online, has an app, lets you calculate points (same as look up calories in this case, etc).
The calorie count it gave for me seems v. high. Interesting htough.
You track every thing you put in your mouth, and the barcode scanner is awesome if you have the ability to do so with a mobile device.
You can track everything, sodium, fiber, calories, carbs, protien, etc. I know this because I just figured out how to track fiber yesterday and it thrilled me, LOL.
It's also nice to see what kind of exercise is worth what.
If anything it helped me realize just how much something was worth.
For example, a girl at work started using it, she is going to Red Lobster for dinner and she says, "I never knew 1 biscut was 300 calories, I could eat 4 of those normally, that's 1200 calories before the food comes out!" It forces you out of denial.
Not for me, it was much, much higher. But I weigh far more than you guys now which is probably why.
As I said, I think it's basically WW without the branding and the "points". Same idea. Track, count, exercise, etc. I am not good at tracking.
I like that it's free, lol.
Since it's free, give it a try.
The free part was good for me too.
And the calories go down as you lose weight. I thought the same thing, but mine has gone down a few times.

Mine has always been 1200. If it went any lower, I might die.
Really, I might.
But you have to track and historically I am not very good at that. Maybe. Also, it's hard b/c I eat at work. So, making oneself say a sandwich at home is easier b/c you can read the nutrition info. If you have a dish at work, it's so flipping hard to figure out. I always guessed the points based on OK it's this much chicken, maybe this much rice, probably cooked in some oil, etc. But it was always a crapshoot.
Maybe. maybe i'll give it a shot. Nuthin' is working with what I'm doing now so.
A lot of foods are already in the database.
I'm not trying to pester you, honest, it's just really easy. I would be a terrible tracker too if I had to figure out the nutritional value on everything, but it really is as easy as typing in, "Subway 6" Tuna on Wheat" and i just did a search of "Google" and it came up with a whole list of foods that they may be serving in your cafeteria. :shurgs shoulders:
I know my Ikea meatballs are on there. LOL!
I know. I know. It's VERY similar to weight watchers - you could type anything in there and it would have it. It's just, blah. a lot of work. We'll see.
I love MFP.... For me its much easier to track calories than points so that's why I stopped following WW and just stuck with MFP. I plan what I am going to eat the night before and calculate the calories so I know if I can have a piece of chocolate, etc. I also put in my recipes and it'll give me the calorie count. I get 1270 calories a day to lose 2lbs a week. The database is much much larger than the WW one so that's really helpful!
If nothing is working now then definitely try something different. But, honestly the motivation and choices have to come from you... the change has to be internal!
The way I think about it is that being fat is hard and getting skinny is hard.... so you have to choose your hard!
