Jewelry Price Poll-Non Clicky

What is the absolute most you would spend on earrings? A necklace? How much for a special piece vs. an everyday piece? I want to know if I have a problem. Embarrassed

Re: Jewelry Price Poll-Non Clicky

  • I wouldn't spend a lot, but DH goes absolutely crazy when he buys me jewelry.  I am pretty sure that DH's line of thinking is something along the lines of, 'If I spend a lot of money, then even if it's ugly she can't dislike it because I spent a lot of money.'  He gets really stressed out about buying gifts and stuff so that's kind of his general solution to any gift-giving event.

I find the whole thing rather funny because I'm not the type of person to wear jewelry everyday (though I do obviously wear my e-ring and wedding ring every day so spending on that is fine, but he got me a gorgeous bracelet for Christmas and I'm like, 'I'm probably going to wear this three times a year...').  And the stuff I do wear is so simple / plain... I just realized I honestly don't even own more than about 5 pieces of jewelry.

  • I love the store I love 21 in the mall. It has the cheapest priced jewelry and I will pick up the cutest earrings and necklaces. I wear them every now and then, so that's why I buy cheaper! My wedding earrings were expensive, almost $300, but I figured it was for a big occasion. When I wishlist shop for jewelry now, it seems like everything I like is VERY expensive. Unfortunately, lol! That's why it's wishlisted, for now.
  • I don't wear jewelry very often, just my E and wedding rings and a pendant necklace most days.

I think for special pieces I would spend up to $500, because I would consider fine jewelry an investment.  I can't imagine myself buying fine jewelry more than once every five years or so.

Everyday pieces I would spend up to $40, because costume jewelry is meant to be trendy, and if I was buying something to go with a couple of outfits I probably wouldn't wear it often enough to justify a higher price.

  • holy sh!t girls.

i hate jewelry..well i LOVE it on others but since i've never been one to wear anything more than my wedding rings, it feels weird. i wish i could pick stuff out.

i think you have a problem though.. if it isn't something you'll get a lot of wear out of, i personally wouldn't buy it. i don't even like to ask for expensive stuff because i'd be the first person to wear it and it falls out or off and since i'm not used to it i'd never know..

this is different but i wore a belt yesterday, it was bugging me so i unhooked it in my car, with my jacket on.. i went to the store and home.. i have NO idea where it is.. i'm pretty sure it fell off of me at the store. lol. woops.

and, my first and only pair of diamond earrings.. had them for like a month and then i put them up and one was missing.. so now there is only one and what can i do with that? nothing.

  • i also love cheap, costume jewelry from the 21 store at alderwood- i have lots of their junk (stuff).

but when it comes to stuff i actually wear, i wear my diamond earrings, which were about 800 i think (there's an interesting story that goes with this, haha).

my e/wedding ring, and i usually wear a swarovski swan. my swan was about $70 i think.

i also have some fancy jewelery that i wear for special occasions that cost several K.

my interesting story with my earrings is that h always says he didn't buy them for me flat-out. he went "halfsies" on it with my ex. because my ex bought me some diamonds before at ben bridge. and they have a diamond upgrade-program, where you can return them and get the full value you paid for it, if you buy something at least double the price. so h took the diamonds my ex bought me, and "traded" it up for my current earrings.

  • I wear a $500 bracelet daily. I also often wear my Tiffany's charm bracelet which also is probably at least $500 at this point.

I'd spend up to probably a thousand on classic earrings, but definitely up to $500. I actually have a pair of moissanite earrings on my wishlist because I'm not a huge fan of diamonds, but love the diamond look.

Necklace, definitely up to a thousand or more for a classic piece, but probably only as a gift.

That being said, I love fashion jewelry, and regularly buy $10-20 necklaces, cuffs, earrings, etc.

This actually happened to me when I went to NYC in December.  H had given me a silver-and-diamond tennis bracelet from Tiffany & Co. for my wedding gift, and since I wear everything else he gave me daily (earrings, necklace, e-ring and wedding band), he wanted me to wear that every day, too.  When we were in NYC in December I lost it and I was really sad.  :(

Then H replaced it with a diamond and platinum bracelet from Tiffany & Co. for Christmas.  I told him he was teaching bad behavior - replacing something I lost with something fancier!  But now this only gets worn for special occasions *and* I am having the clasp replaced with one that will be better.  Tiffany has really crappy jewelry clasps on their necklaces and bracelets, IMO.

  • My most expensive piece is my wedding ring. Other than that, I don't tend to wear a lot of jewelry so I don't buy much. When I do buy jewelry, it will usually either be something in the $4-20 range for fashion jewelry, or the $50-60 because I would rather have real stones than costume plastic for chunky pieces. My favorite piece I own is my chunky red bamboo coral necklace that was around $70. (That was before I realized coral meant they had to kill it, naive me thought it was pieces that broke off naturally in ocean currents, etc.)

  • "Nice" jewellery? I... don't know that I've ever set a specific price-point in my head as being "too much", but if it's more than ~$150, I'd better be in love with it and plan to wear it a LOT.

e.g., there's a necklace at Green Lake Jewelry Works that I am totally in love with, but I wouldn't wear it that often, and it's, like, $5k. So... I won't buy it unless I win the lotto or something.

"Costume" type jewellery, ~$25, unless it's really awesome.

  • It depends on what I can afford at the time.  Right now, I wouldn't buy any.  When I'm doing well and if I could afford it, I might spend $1000 if I loved it and would wear it often.  I have a few investment pieces that I wear everyday and a few others that are more expensive.  Although my mom worked at a jewelry store for a while and I got some very nice things for a very good price.

I have watch that was about $500 a wear every day, my e-ring, wedding band and a family ring that are valuable and wear every day.  I also have two pairs of diamond earrings (I'd like bigger someday).  And a couple nice necklaces.
