I don't really know how to explain it, but this is the 2nd time I've witnessed G do it (because I'm laying with her). Not sure if she's done it more. She'll be fast asleep and then wake up, gasp for air a few times and scream/cry. Then she'll find her paci and be back to sleep.
It's so scary to watch, like she couldn't breathe. Today though, she was laying in my arms and nothing was blocking her face, etc.
It almost reminds me of when I start to fall alseep and dream that I trip on a curb. Ya know what I mean? Anyone else's little one done this? Can they have scary dreams at this age?

Re: Sudden wake ups..
K has cried several nights in his sleep, and I know that he is still out while doing it. I asked the doc about it, and they said it is normal at this age to start to experience dreams, etc.
I would say as long as she gets air, she should be okay. Probably just try not to have much in her bed with her at night.
HTH.
DD cries in her sleep.
DS wakes up screaming sometimes 3 nights in a row then he'll go weeks without doing it. I think it's just bad dreams, but it usually takes a lot to calm him down and get him back to sleep.
An apnea spell where she's not breathing would be no breath for 20 seconds or greater. If you're noticing that before she gasps for air and wakes up then I would definitely let your pedi know.
