Anyone have something coming up?
I've got my daughter's 1st. Things have change a bit. I was having a hard time finding anything strawberry that wasn't strawberry shortcake. My sMIL found some cute butterflies at Hobby Lobby so I'm back to butterflies. I found some cute garland/mobiles to attempt to make, a favor idea, and a cute invite.
My mom and her friend are trying to bust into the cake industry (the friend used to own a shop and actually did our wedding cake). They are going to do the bday cake. I'm pretty stoked to get my wedding cake again.
I'm probably going to keep a similar type menu- simple apps, sandwich melts, pasta salad, potato salad, green salad. If the strawberries are fresh I might still do the strawberry bruschetta.
Since we'll be in the new house and 1.5 hrs closer to family I guess I'll have to plan for more attendees.
Re: So slow in here
Hi! I wish I had something coming up to share...
I also haven't been posting as many responses because I don't have any new great ideas or anything to share.
Your party sounds like it is going to be awesome. Am jealous re: the professional cake.
Good Luck with your new home and please share your follow-ups. I think Tarheels is probably off doing her fiesta and will post her follow-up sometime soon too.

I'm helping my co-worker with her June wedding. You wouldn't believe the DEALS this bride gets. It's insane. She and her fiance are high school sweethearts (went to prom together and everything). They both ended up marrying other people and having kids (5 girls between them). Those marriages didn't last and they reconnected with each other. He works at the college doing security, and has a night job doing security at a local bar. She works in the prosecutor's office and her parents are also the kind of people who had a bunch of kids and know everyone in town. So, they are having the reception at the ballroom at the college - rental is free since he works there. The security staff is volunteering their time for the event (apparently you have to have security if you serve alcohol on campus) - she just has to let them go through the buffett. She got a wedding dress for $70 online. The officiant is a high school friend of theirs who is volunteering his time. The reception band is a group of teachers from the middle school who taught the bride and groom, and now teach their daughters at the school - they are volunteering to play. The bride's brother is acting as DJ for the rest of the night. The bride's mom arranges flowers and works at Jo-Ann Fabrics (employee discount), so she is taking care of all the decorations. As a post-reception party, the local bar that the groom works at has a party room that they are letting the couple use (for free) and giving everyone drink specials. The bride's best friend is a photographer.
There's not too much for me to do now, just give her suggestions, keep her on track, and support her choices. I am going to help out on the day of the wedding, just to coordinate everything and make sure things go smoothly. Of course, I'm volunteering my time because I love weddings and always wanted to help someone plan one - so the bride gets me for free, too!

I've noticed its been super slow as well.
I think I'm still going to have a Mad Men party on the season premier night. It will probably be a small dinner party with a few couples. It premiers on a Sun night though so I'll have to feel out if people will want to go out.
I usually have a Cinco de Mayo party and since its on a Saturday this year I'm leaning toward having one!
I'm also hoping my sis gets engaged soon so I will have lots of fun stuff to help out with and plan there...
I don't have anything going on right now. I'm super busy with real life, though I'd love to have it interrupted with party planning
My fiesta isn't until March 24, and since I'm so busy, it's on the back burner for a little while.
I'm co-hosting an engagement dinner on March 31 and I'm in charge of invites. There are 22 co-hosts!! So I have to find an invitation that satisfies all the hosts: modern enough for the bride's friends, masculine enough for the [12 years older] groom's friends, mature enough for the 55-80 yo parents' friends, and of course, friendly enough for the couple themselves. I think I'm up for this stationery challenge
MIL's doing the flowers, so I also need to keep in mind what's in season for flowers and choose colors off that!
When I need to spend mindless time, ^ that's what I play with lately.
6, I like the idea of butterflies - it seems much easier to work with.
Kate, those are great deals! Definitely a great bargain wedding!
Wine, check my fiesta pinboard if you're interested in Cinco ideas.
