K's 1st birthday is approaching and we are going with a Safari/Jungle theme. My IL's are renting out a banquet room in a hotel, so it is a blank slate. We have the option of ordering platters and bringing our own dishes as well. Any ideas (decor and food)?
Re: Ideas for a Safari Party
When I was shopping for DD, I did see adorable jungle themed plates in the party stores....I'll try and send you the links on FB.
For food, I would stick with easy. We did salad, ziti, two four foot wedges, my mom made her famous meatballs and I feel like there was one more thing. We had about 50 people or so. It worked out great. For apps we did crudite, chips, etc. I am sure there is a way to make it more animal like but I am so not crafty. I just felt it was better to stick with easy so there are no worries and easy clean up!!!!
Oh, and we did it in a hall.
sage- I saw the party pics on fb...looked like lots of fun!
marg- Even though the child care director in me prefers to focus on the kids, we typically have more adults than kids at our "kids" parties, lol. Since MIL is paying for most of it; I'm not in a position to object. We will probably have between 50 and 60 guests, DJ, dance floor, goodie bags or favors. My 12 year old has agreed to dress up like a monkey at some point and help me lead in "Tarzan Says" and some dances.
That's a big party! Sounds like fun.
This is awesome!
For months I've been saying that I'm not having a big party for a child who won't even remember it.
MIL: You HAVE to; it's his 1st birthday.
Me: But I feel like it's more for the adults.
MIL: YES, it is. It's for the adults who SURVIVED the 1st year!
You gotta love this woman.
billyandsara- I love
but I'm not THAT crafty.
appletini- I'm on Pinterest. Someone here got me sucked into it...hmmm,lol. I haven't been on in awhile but I'll definitely take a look.
Can you rent animals?? I was looking into the 2x2 Zoo for J's 2nd bday. It is $375 for a Kangaroo, Lizards, Turtle, Snake, 2 Ducks, rabbits and an alligator. There is an option for Pony Rides too, but DH doesn't want to deal with the poop.
1wishes.com (i think) is a great site for party decor. I did a basic package and added solid colors to match.
TARGET has cheapest solid colored plates in bulk, over $1stores.
I like this idea and K would love it too but the party is in a hotel. Thanks for the website; so many things I never knew existed!
