Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo - Missed two pills in first week, still have period....

Hi ladies,

I've been on this pill for many months now and love it! But this past pack that I started on Jan 15th, I missed pill days 5 and 6, and didn't take 7 till late that night. My husband was out of town, and some how it just slipped my mind. I have had spotting to a very light period for a little over a week now, after missing those days and it doesn't seem to be going away. I thought it would a couple times, but then comes back.

For those who have experience, should I just continue the pack (I took day 15 this morning. Out of a 28day pack). Or is it best to stop the pack and start a new one after having a normal cycle again?

Any advice would be most helpful! Thank you!!

  • I think you could do either, but use back up protection. Personally, I would use back up protection through the rest of this cycle and until you have gone through one week on the next pack.

I agree. I would keep on current pack and use protection for next 2 weeks or so. Call your doc to double check in the morning though.

Definitely use back up protection. Calling your doctor in the morning is also a good idea. Make sure you can explain your spotting pattern to your doctor as well.

  • You've probably already seen your dr by now but for any future lurkers- I have had this happen a few times while taking this pill and my advice would be to stop, let your period come (the spotting is going to continue anyway so you might as well), then start a new pack. Save the old pack for a time when you want to delay your period by a few days (ie summer vacations, etc). Use protection during period week and probably a few days into the new pack. you should be fine
