My non-nature loving H has decided at the prodding of the Kiwis and Aussies at work that he really wants to rent a camper van and drive around the South Island. I've now scrapped and replanned this trip for him three times. This is it. We have ten nights total on the South Island. We get in super late from KL on the first night, so we're crashing at an airport hotel until morning, picking up the caravan and heading northeast.
This is what I have planned:
Night 1-- Airport hotel, pick up caravan in morning and drive to Kaikoura
2--- Spend night in Kaikoura, drive to Marlborough in the morning
3-- Spend the night at a B &B in Marlborough
4--Spend the night at same B & B in Marlborough
5-- Same B & B in Marlborough, leave in the morning and head south
6--?
7--?
8--?
9--?
10--?
11--get back to Christchurch, flight leaves for KL at 1:ish am
Who feels like sketching a rough itinerary for the last five days on the South Island? The only thing it needs to include is hiking on the Fox Glacier. The first fie nights are completely booked and I don't want to change them (we are big wine fans and the entire purpose of the trip is to visit Marlborough). Feel free to go wild with the last 5 days.
Re: One more South Island NZ quesion
May I ask which BnB you're staying in? We went to Old St Mary's Convent and it was gorgeous!
I would recommend Queenstown and hitting Milford Sound. Most beautiful place I have ever seen - hands down. Pictures don't do it justice.
The Shotover Jet is pretty fun there too!

I don't think you have time to go down to Fiordland/Queenstown unless you could drop the campervan in ZQN and fly back to Christchurch on Day 11.
If you don't want to do that, I'd just spend the time in the glacier area and then drive back from there to Christchurch (stopping in Punakaiki at some point).
We're staying at Hillsfield House in Renwick.
Do you think 5 nights is enough to drive from the northern part of the island to the southern part and back up to Christchurch?
