I don't frequent this board much but I'm looking for help.
We'd like to go to Mackinac Island this August for a week w/ our son who will be 2 by then. We're looking for a cottage or cabin to rent. I'm googling but its hard to tell if the places are as good as the pictures make them out to be. Any help would be great!
Thank you!
Re: Mackinac Island, MI
How close to the island do you want to be? I agree with pp - besides the island, there's not a lot to do right there. Don't let the Mystery Spot signs draw you in!
DH's grandparents live in Charlevoix which is an hour south of the bridge. It's a beautiful and really cute town. There's a bunch of cabin rentals here.

Charlevoix is nice too - there are so many small towns that are cute. You could make a day trip to Mackinac or just tack on one night at the beginning or end of your trip.
Honestly, a few hours were enough for me on the island. Not much to see except the fort or take a bike ride around the island. Mackinac City isn't as cute as many of those other towns.
We're going to go to Grand Haven and see DH's extended family first. We're drawn to seeing 3 Great Lakes and my sister's family goes every summer and they love it.
By more things to do, what kinds of things?
We're the swim, ride bikes, eat out type of vacationers. We want somewhere pretty and relaxing. We like walking around cute towns but we won't shop and we don't want any place that's too "touristy."
I very much appreciate the help - thank you!
Thank you! Will do!
