Thoughts on Pinterest Etiquette?
I have been seeing a lot of pins lately that I would describe as ads and it has really been bothering me. I have been reporting the pins as spam, but I am wondering if I am being a tattle-tale.
I am okay with Etsy stores showing off their stock, but I am starting to see representatives from MLMs and wholesalers advertising products too. I just would really hate to see Pinterest get to a point that every third pin is a company trying to promote their sales.
I know there are a lot of pinners here. Am I alone in being bothered by this? Should I back off the report button?
Re: Thoughts on Pinterest Etiquette?
Stand up for something you believe in.
are these pins by people you follow or just under "everything" ?
If it's someone you follow, I would report them & if they continued doing it repeatedly, I'd unfollow them.
If it's under everything, I'd just keep reporting them.
If nobody complains, it will just get worse. I don't have a problem with people pinning things they want to buy from etsy, but I do have a problem with etsy sellers (or other websites/home businesses) pinning things they are selling.
It really bothers me when I see people trying to do this. I pin stuff from Etsy (when I'm bored enough to wade through the crap to find nice stuff, that is) and I don't mind it when people are pinning their "wish list" stuff, but when it's obviously someone trying to sell their crap, I get irritated.
I had no idea there was a report button, but if you enlighten me, I'll join you in reporting.

I try to be sensitive that not everyone uses Pinterest the same way I do. I am so glad this bothers others too. Fortunately it is not people I follow, but when I am browsing or searching for something. I actually just found an entire board of pins and each description began with "****coupon code****".
You do have to click into a pin to report it, but there is a button on the right hand side under the "like", "tweet", etc. buttons. I guess I will continue to report away!
