" Who Do You Think You Are?" Would you do it?
So I'm watching "Who Do You Think You Are?". If you had the chance, and resources the celebrities do on the show to look up family back round would you?
Absolutely yes! Let's get started!
or
I'm not sure. I don't know if I want to know what or who's back there.
Re: " Who Do You Think You Are?" Would you do it?
Yes I would. My mother's side of the family is Jewish and I lost a few ancestors in the holocaust, but I would mostly like to see how many generations we could go back. I know this is impossible, but I sometimes wonder if I would ever be able to find out what mix of the tribes I am.
I would also like to go back on my father's side too. My grandmother has said we have some english nobility in our background and I would love to find out more information about that.
My mom and I have been trying. It's long and tedious work if you don't have the resources that the celebrities do. But we're having fun!
I would absolutely do it! I am trying, but hitting a wall. My grandparents came over from Ireland and it's been hard to track them down. My grandmother's first name was Ellen, but I have found documents for her with the name Helen, Nellie, and Ellen. I've also found the last name with two or more different spellings. It looks like they ran fast and loose with the names. 8)

There's been days when I though thanks but no thanks. I don't want to poke around anymore. The little that I have some was good and some was no so good. One good thing I found out is that I had some Jewish ancestry. They were called " Cryptic Jew" because of how they had to hide the fact they were Jewish. I found a couple Jewish cousins. One who was born in Tunisia and lives in France. The funny thing is around the time I found out it was around Passover. H and I were on vacation and were staying at a hotel were a huge Jewish family or community were spending there Passover. My family is from Mexico and I thought I was going to have a lot of Native Indian but didn't have as much as I expected.
I've never understood the interest in it. I don't think the actions of an ancestor are much to be proud OR ashamed of, so I don't find it more interesting than reading biographical bits about random people. <shrug>
In fairness, I've never seen this show, but I can't imagine I'd find it that much better because it's celebrities.
I would. DH's family is much more interesting than mine. He can trace his family back to the pilgrims. He also has a lot of family drama, and he has a half sister who left the family when she was a teenager. She doesn't want anything to do with FIL, but DH would like to find her. I've asked to sit down with aunts who know more about the family history but they keep blowing me off.
My family has cool immigration stories, and we can trace family back to the civil war, but that's about it.
I would definitely do it. I find ancestry to be at least somewhat influential on you, whether you like it or not.
I think I would watch this show even if it featured non-celebrities. I love peoples stories.
